Rushford-Peterson’s lone senior, Caden Johnson holds the Section 1A runner-up trophy as his younger teammates converge. The Trojans trailed most of the section title game versus Goodhue, but made a comeback that fell just short, as the Wildcats prevailed 84-79. Photo by Paul Trende

#3 Warriors Fulfill Destiny, Romp to 1AA Title There is no argument as to who the best boys team is in Section 1AA this year.  State third-ranked and 1-seed Caledonia (27-2), by virtue of its commanding win over Lake City in the 1AA title game, added the Tigers to the list of vanquished section foes.  And all have been vanquished emphatically.   Amidst Caledonia’ 14-0 record … [Read more...]

Girls Basketball (3/24)

Caledonia Grabs State Consolation Championship  Caledonia’s girls basketball finished a fantastic season as one of three 1AA teams with at least two wins at state.  They were also one of just three AA teams to finish their state run with a win.  A quarterfinal loss put a damper on competing for a state title or third place.  But Scott Sorenson’s group rallied with two wins … [Read more...]

The plan for solar installations is moving forward with bids due on Monday, March 24. “Those will come in and whoever is the winning bid will start working in the month of April on the grant application on the school district’s behalf. Trojans Fight Past Knights, Shoot Down Rebels, Make 1A Title Game Rushford-Peterson boys basketball’s last trip to the 1A finals was 2017-2018.   For Trojans fans, ones used to state trip after state trip in the early 2010s, that probably seems like an eternity.  The 2017-2018 team was their last to make the big dance.  R-P has lost three 1A semifinals contests since.  But … [Read more...]

#5 Warriors Fulfill Promise, Top D-E for Section 1AA Title The last two post-seasons have ended in hard disappointment for Caledonia girls basketball.  Two years ago, a senior-laden Warrior team made the Section final versus Goodhue, only to fall 78-58.  Last year, the Warriors led Rochester-Lourdes 31-19 at intermission and by 16 in the second half only for Eagle Aaliyah … [Read more...]

Basketball (3/10)

March 10, 2025 by Paul Trende

Rushford-Peterson lone senior Nevaeh Happel looks to get the steal from Southland’s Brynlee Koenigs in the teams’ 1A quarterfinal. The Trojans prevailed 58-39 in the game, but then fell to 1-seed, #1 in Class Goodhue 74-51 in the semifinals to finish a good year 17-10. Photo by Paul Trende

Girls Basketball: #5 Warriors Whip Their Way to 1AA Title Game Both games were won handily.  There was no semifinals disappointment.  Top-ranked #5 in AA Caledonia (1-seed, 24-3) plowed through Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Cotter to make the 1AA finals.  In the quarters, the Warriors did not exactly shoot well from deep in the first half, making five threes in 20 attempts (25%).  But … [Read more...]

Aubrie Klug scored 28 points as top-seed #5 in AA Caledonia beat 16-seed La Crescent/Hokah 85-25 in the 1AA girls playoffs.  The Warriors (24-3) move on to face 9-seed Z-M (13-14).  Section 1A 2-seed SG/M-C topped L-O 71-38 behind Siri Konkel’s 18 (pts) and 11 (asts).  Jensyn Storhoff went for 21 (pts) and 13 (stls) as 7-seed Lanesboro topped 10-seed BP 57-33.  The Lions (21-5) … [Read more...]

Six Game Win Streak Propels R-P Over 20 Wins It has been a good year for a young Rushford-Peterson boys basketball team.  A 3-0 week brought their win streak to six, as Chris Drinkall’s Trojans surpassed 20 wins on the year.  R-P sandwiched TRC wins over La Crescent/Hokah and Cotter around a non-conference victory over Grand Meadow.  Versus the Lancers, sophomore Carson … [Read more...]
