Spring Grove dominated the offensive statistics but escaped with only a one-point win, 13-12, against visiting Southland in an early-season sub-district showdown. Like every other two years since the MSHSL went to the format, the 2023 high school football season starts with district realignment. In Class AA, the Southeast-White is now Cale-donia, Chatfield, La Crescent/Hokah, Dover-Eyota, St. Charles, Cannon Falls, and Triton. The Lancers and Bombers enter from the Southeast-Red. Fall sports got going. Bryce Berns accounted for 301 total yards (114 rushing, 187 yards passing) and three TDs as SG football beat Mountain Lake 28-7. Defense Limits Mountain Lake in Lion Football Opener

The Spring Grove defense limited Mountain Lake Area to only eight first downs in a 28-7 season-opening, Lion road win.  Junior Bryce Berns, in his varsity quarterback debut, passed for 187 yards (1 TD) and rushed for 114 (2 TD, 1 PAT).
