South-East Football (8/24 & 8/25)

September 4, 2023 by Paul Trende Leave a Comment

Lanesboro’s Luke Ruen hauls in a 41-yard reception in the second quarter of Burros’ game at Southland. The Burros led 6-0 and threatened for more in the quarter at the end of this drive, but an interception silenced the threat. Ultimately, Southland sniped five Burro passes and took advantage of a couple Burro injuries (including Ruen) in a 21-6 Rebel win.

Houston 36, Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 34 in OT (H: M. Rodriguez 20-136, 3 TDs rushing; Aden Kulas 19-69, TD rushing; Austin Groth rushing TD; Morgan Rohweder 3 of 8, 62 yards passing. The score was tied 28-28 at the end of regulation. AC/G-E missed a game-winning field goal as time expired. Rodriguez scored his third TD on 4th and one and Landyn VanGundy caught the two-point pass to make it 36-28 Hurricanes in OT. ACGE then scored on its first play, but a Hurricane all out blitz stuffed their conversion attempt, securing the ‘Cane win)

Lanesboro scored first after a fumble (6-0) but the Rebels took advantage of five interceptions and a couple Burro injuries to post the win, scoring 21 unanswered points. Southland scored 14 third quarter points, as Noah Bauer threw TD passes to Jack Bruggeman and Andrew Timm for a 21-6 lead. Lanesboro rushed for just 78 yards. The Burros ended Southland’s season 35-6 in last year’s Section 1 9-man quarters)

Spring Grove 28, Mountain Lake Area 7 (SG: B. Berns 20-114, 2 TDs rushing, 14 of 23, 187 yards, TD passing; Jacob Olerud 20-94, TD rushing, team-high 10 total tackles; Jaxon Strinmoen 5-66, TD receiving; Zach Brumm 3-49 receiving; Braedon Solie 4-47 receiving. SG built a 21-0 lead with an early third quarter score and their only points given up was the ensuing 82-yard kick-off return TD. MLA was scoreless on three red zone trips. SG’s scoring drives were 81, 70, and 84 yards. Total yardage: SG 406, MLA 155. The teams’ last meeting was a Lion win over the Wolverines in the 2018 state title game)

Braedon Solie tumbles to the turf after one of his four receptions for Spring Grove during their 28-7 road win at Mountain Lake Area. The game was one of three “zero-week” 9-man contests, as Lanesboro fell to Southland 21-6 and Houston topped Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 36-34 in overtime.
