Boys Wrestling: 13 Qualify for State Headed by Nine Gophers

Chatfield's state wrestling qualifiers and their coaches pose for pictures after the 1A individual meet.

At the 1A individual meet, section team champion Chatfield continued its excellent season by qualifying nine guys for state. LARP and FCLMC each got one entrant. In Class AA, Caledonia/Houston qualified two. The Gophers pulled the super-rare feats of getting all 13 of their wrestlers to the semifinals and eleven to the finals. All 13 finished top three. Kingsland boys’ basketball put a cap to an excellent season by posting a trio of wins. Versus Lanesboro (6-12, 7-17), the game featured 16 lead changes. The Knights led 38-34 at intermission. Down 57-52 in the second half, Kingsland had a 14-2 run to lead 66-59. The Burros closed to down 68-65 (0:22). Sam Snitker then hit two free throws to ice it. At the February 20 Mabel-Canton School Board meeting, Superintendent Gary Kuphal updated the board on the latest interactions with Decorah School District.
