Baseball: Gophers Win Three More Playoff Games, Take Third in 1AA
Chatfield baseball won three elimination playoff games the second week of the post-season, but came up one win short of the 1AA title game. Brian Baum’s group (5-seed, 16-6) first took on PEM (8-seed, 8-12) at Rochester’s Hudson Field. Like the first two meetings, Chatfield came out on top, and more decisively. Drew Yahnke pitched a 10-strikeout complete-game shutout as Caledonia baseball beat Cotter 3-0. The Warriors also split key games with La Crescent/Hokah, losing 7-0, winning 5-4. Gophers Baseball Notches Wins Over “Runners Up”
Chatfield baseball had a good week, posting two wins over teams that were section runners-up last season. In a rematch of last year’s 1AA-East title game, the Gophers trailed PEM 4-0 after the Bulldogs’ second inning only for Chatfield to have a seven-run sixth to lead 10-4. Boys Wrestling: Chat’s Berg & Schott, Cal’s Ginther State Champions
Fifteen total guys from Caledonia/Houston (9), Chatfield (5), and FCLMC (1) took on the state individual wrestling tourney. Six placed with three state champions.
