Boys Basketball (2/21 – 2/26)

Three Rivers Conference

Chatfield 72, St. Charles 34 (C: C. Johnson 21 pts (10-16 FGs), 7 rebs, 10 asts, 6 stls; Drew Schindler 12 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts; Isaac Stevens 12 pts, 7 rebs; Drew O’Connor 10 pts (5-9 FGs), 5 stls; Sam Backer 8 pts.  Gophers shot 32 of 62 (52%))  

Cotter 41, Fillmore Central 61 (FC: J. Kiehne 16 pts (6-8 FTs), 6 rebs, 7 stls; W. Parker 12 pts, 8 rebs; Luke Hellickson 12 pts (3-8 threes), 8 rebs; B. Corson 8 pts, 6 asts.  Falcons led 26-18 at halftime.  Cotter then went 11-2 to lead 29-28.  FC went 13-1 to lead 41-29.  Threes:  FC 6 of 18 (33%), C 2 of 16 (13%).   FTs: FC 17 of 23 (74%), C 11 of 20 (55%).  Falcons end five-game skid)  

Rushford-Peterson 47, Cotter 21 (R-P: J. Ruberg 22 pts (8-10 FGs, 6-8 FTs), 11 rebs, 5 stls; Grady Hengel 9 pts, 7 asts; Malachi Bunke 9 pts (3-9 threes).  It was the third time R-P held a foe under 30)  

Lewiston-Altura 74, Chatfield 66 in OT (C: D. Schindler 17 pts (6-7 FTs); I. Stevens 13 pts, 9 rebs; C. Johnson 11 pts, 7 asts, 4 stls; D. O’Connor 11 pts (5-7 FGs), 7 rebs; S. Backer 8 pts, 7 rebs.  L-A: Thomas Menk 32 pts.  Chatfield led 36-33 at halftime, but trailed 62-55 with 3:37 left.  In the final minute, Connor Jax hit a three to make it 64-63.  After L-A made a free throw, Schindler made two freebies to tie it at 65-65 (0:08).  L-A then turned the ball over.   Chatfield was fouled with 0:01, but missed two game-winning free throws.  Menk scored the first five points of OT.  Chatfield couldn’t recover)

Fillmore Central’s William Parker is sandwiched between and beneath Spring Grove rebounders (#15) Tysen Grinde and (#45) Elijah Solum. Indicative of the game, a battle, FC (9-17) upset the Lions (22-4) 55-54 on the back of a late steal and then break-away lay-up by Jayce Kiehne.

La Crescent/Hokah 64, #1 in A Caledonia 71 (C: E. King 40 pts (13-15 FTs), 8 rebs, 10 stls; Jackson Koepke 10 pts, 7 rebs; Ja’Shon Simpson 9 pts, 4 stls.  LCH: Parker Todd 19 pts, 6 rebs; Owen Bentzen 16 pts, 12 reb.  Caledonia led 30-27 at halftime.  LCH took a 31-30 lead early in second half, but Warriors responded with 10-2 run to lead 40-33.  King scored 16 straight Warrior second half points.  Cal led 61-47 with around 5:00 left only for Lancers to go on 10-0 run to close to down 61-57 (1:42).  Thane Meiners then authored a three-point play (1:23) and King followed with two free throws making it 65-57.  Lancers had 32 turnovers.  FTs: LCH 18-21 (86%), Cal 22-36 (61%).  Warriors sweep through TRC schedule undefeated (*played R-P once))

Southeast Conference

Grand Meadow 70, Mabel-Canton 56 (GM: R. Warmka 35 pts (13-14 FGs, 4-4 threes, 5-5 FTs), 15 rebs; T. Glynn 13 pts (6-6 FTs), 6 rebs, 7 asts; Connor Munson 12 pts (3-5 threes); Jace Kraft 5 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts.  M-C: C. Tollefsrud 32 pts (11-18 FGs, 6-9 threes, 4-4 FTs); Jordan Larson 10 pts, 7 asts, 4 stls; Alex Arneson 8 pts.  GM shot 23 of 41 (56%) from the field, 15 of 16 (94%) at the line.  Threes: GM 9 of 20 (45%), M-C 9 of 24 (38%).  Rebounding: GM 36, M-C 14.  Larks end seven-game skid)  

Lanesboro 54, Kingsland 64 (K: W. Erdman 24 pts (10-16 FGs), 14 rebs, 5 asts; Jayden Brink 13 pts; Ayden Howard 11 pts; Mason Kolling 10 pts.  L: Mason Howard 19 pts (5-11 threes), 4 asts; John Prestemon 16 pts (7-11 FGs), 5 asts; Stephan Schultz 8 pts.  First half was back-and-forth.  Lanesboro led 29-27 at intermission.  Knights took the lead at 34-31 and then never trailed. But Lanesboro was within one four times and two three times.  An Erdman three-point play around the 5:00 mark put Kingsland up 53-46.  They then led by at least four, the final margin their largest.  FGs: K 24 of 47 (51%), L 22 of 50 (44%).  FTs: K 13 of 18 (72%), L 4 of 7 (57%).  Knights won glass 35 to 21.  Knights won SEC meeting 58-53.  It was Kingsland’s fifth straight win)

Lanesboro 50, Schaeffer Academy 41 (L: M. Howard 18 pts (6-14 threes), 4 asts; J. Prestemon 14 pts, 6 rebs, 5 asts; S. Schultz 10 pts.  Burros overcame a 21-17 halftime deficit, out-scoring Lions 33-20 after intermission.  FTs: L 11 of 12 (92%), SA 10 of 12 (83%).  Threes: L 7 of 24 (29%), SA 3 of 16 (19%))  

Mabel-Canton 45, Schaeffer Academy 65 (M-C: C. Tollefsrud 19 pts (3-12 threes); A. Arneson 12 pts (6-6 FTs); J. Larson 9 pts, 4 asts.  FTs: SA 35 of 39 (90%), M-C 9 of 13 (69%).  Cougars (3-11, 8-18) are 1A’s 17-seed, play 16-seed W-K (7-19))  

LeRoy-Ostrander 48, Lyle/Pacelli 63 (L-O: C. Hungerholt 17 pts (6-6 FTs); L. Royston 16 pts, 7 rebs; Gavin Sweeney 10 pts, 7 rebs; T. Olson 0 pts (0-5 FGs), 7 rebs, 4 asts.  Hungerholt was 6 of 6 at the line, all other Cardinals 1 of 8)  

Lanesboro 67, Houston 25 (L: M. Howard 14 pts (7-10 FGs); Parker Storhoff 8 pts (4-5 FGs); J. Prestemon 8 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts, 4 stls; S. Schultz 8 pts.  H: Connor Porter 8 pts.  All 12 Burros to play scored.  Burros (9-5, 16-10) are 1A’s 10-seed, play at 10-seed Southland (16-6).  Houston (1-13, 1-24) is the 18-seed, plays at 15-seed Schaeffer (10-16))  

Glenville-Emmons 37, Grand Meadow 70 (GM: T. Glynn 22 pts; R. Warmka 17 pts; Jacob Kerrins 13 pts.  GM (7-8, 11-15) is 1A’s 12-seed, plays at 5-seed Kenyon-Wanamingo (20-5)) 

Kingsland 60, Southland 64 (K: W. Erdman 31 pts (13-26 FGs, 3-5 threes), 14 rebs; J. Brink 15 pts (3-8 threes).  Knights led the game late, but Rebels withstood upset.  Kingsland (6-9, 11-15) is 1A’s 13-seed, will play at 4-seed SG (22-4))

Non-Conference 

LeRoy-Ostrander 51, United South Central 54 (LO: L. Royston 16 pts (4-10 threes), 6 rebs; T. Olson 12 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts; C. Hungerholt 10 pts (5-6 FGs); G. Sweeney 9 pts.  Cardinals (9-6, 16-10) are 1A’s 9-seed, play at 8-seed Randolph (13-13))  

Chatfield 49, #6 in AA Lake City 72 (C: D. Schindler 14 pts; I. Stevens 8 pts, 9 rebs.  Gophers shot 14 of 49 (39%).   Tigers are 20-4.  Gophers (8-7, 16-10) are 1AA’s 7-seed, will host 10-seed Z-M (6-20))
