D-E Invite

September 26, 2022 by Paul Trende

A year ago, LARPH boys cross country was a perpetual meet first place contender. Matt Kingsbury’s group won the 1A Meet itself, to make state. They graduated two great runners in Tyler Rislov and Andrew Hoiness, but LARPH is still potent. At the Dover-Eyota Invite, LARPH took first (50) over Lake City (68) and RAACE (75). GMLOS (97) took fifth and LFC (143) sixth of seven … [Read more...]

Coming of a huge week two win over Rushford-Peterson, state-ranked Fillmore Central (#7 in Class A) had no problem dispatching with Hayfield at home. #3 Warriors Defend Their Way to Win

September 26, 2022 by Paul Trende

Caledonia football is back in the top ten, ranked #3 in AA. Carl Fruechte’s Warriors defended that high ranking by shutting down Dover-Eyota in a Southeast-White affair. Through three quarters, the Eagles had just one first down. It came by way of a 15-yard Warrior roughing the snapper penalty. D-E mounted nothing against the Caledonia defense, led by #55 Grant Ness, who … [Read more...]

#2 Burros Run over Passy Cardinals

September 26, 2022 by Paul Trende

After back-to-back weeks of turning it on in the second half to down foes, Lanesboro football, ranked #2 in 9-Man, turned its early season motus operandi, backwards. The Burros scored on all six of their first half drives to lead LeRoy-Ostrander 20-6 after one quarter and 40-18 at halftime. In a game that went well into the night because of all the scoring, the Cardinals … [Read more...]

September 26, 2022 by Paul Trende

Chatfield is the defending state Class AA champions. They returned a lot of talent and experience. The Gophers put up convincing wins in week one and two, so it wasn’t a huge surprise they earned the Class AA #1-ranking in the first poll of the season. After their week three showing, they are #1 with a bullet. The Gophers put a serious shellacking on St. Charles. Jeff Johnson’s … [Read more...]

On the night, SG scored four times on scrimmage plays that covered 46 yards or more, plus a 60-yard, non-scoring pass to Tysen Grinde, who did score later on a 74-yard kickoff return. … [Read more...]

Falcon VB Aces Opening Homestand

September 12, 2022 by Paul Trende

The term “homestand” is a big baseball term, as major league teams often play multiple home games in a row.  Fillmore Central volleyball had a homestand to begin the 2022 season.   Their first three matches were all in Harmony.  The Falcons followed up an opening week win over Hayfield with TRC victories over Lewiston-Altura and La Crescent/Hokah.  Good serving (poor serve … [Read more...]

Warriors Football Stymies Pine Island in Blowout Win

September 12, 2022 by Paul Trende

One calling card of Caledonia football over the years was its defense.  The Warriors used their speed to flock to the football and humble opposing offenses.  The 2022 campaign opened with Caledonia looking like years past in passing their first test coming off a trying 2021 season.  At Class AAA Pine Island, the Warrior defense literally held the Panthers to nothing.  PI didn’t … [Read more...]
