The term “homestand” is a big baseball term, as major league teams often play multiple home games in a row. Fillmore Central volleyball had a homestand to begin the 2022 season. Their first three matches were all in Harmony. The Falcons followed up an opening week win over Hayfield with TRC victories over Lewiston-Altura and La Crescent/Hokah. Good serving (poor serve receive) was a key to the wins. Versus the Cardinals, FC used 16 aces to post an easy 3-0 win (25-11, 25-15, 25-11). Freshman libero Kyla Hellickson (18-19 serving, 7 aces, 15 digs) led the way. Kammry Broadwater (7 kills, 12-12 serving, 3 aces) and Alyssa Britton (4 kills, 3 aces) also had a least three aces. Abby Bothun (4 kills, 5 digs), Madison Simon (5 kills), Regan Hanson (7 digs), and Aubrey Daniels (17 assists) helped. Two nights later, the Lancers came to town. Travis Malley’s group posted another sweep (25-20, 25-15, 25-13). FC had 19 aces. Hellickson again led the effort (18-20 serving, 8 aces, 14 digs). Broadwater (7 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces), Bothun (4 kills, 7 digs, 13-13 serving, 4 aces), and Britton (9-9 serving, 3 aces) helped. Daniels (15 assists, 6 digs) did the setting. Hanson (8 digs) helped defensively. FC is 2-0 in the TRC, 3-0 overall.
