Fountain Council Needs Candidates

August 12, 2024 by Kirsten Zoellner

Mayor Tammy Danielson

At a rapid meeting on Wednesday, August 7, the Fountain Council approved just one item of business, in addition to the consent agenda items of last month’s minutes and financials. It was to approve legal gambling for the Fountain Fire Department’s gun raffle fundraiser. The event is scheduled for October 12 at the community center.

Other items that were discussed included an update from Mayor Tammy Danielson. She informed the council that she would bring a proposal for consideration at the September 4 council meeting. She would like the council to consider hiring SMG Web Design out of Preston to revamp the city’s website.

“They gave us a quote to build a more robust web page. They would do absolutely everything we would ever need on it – building, doing all of the editing, all of the announcements – just entering everything,” said Danielson.

According to Danielson, the cost would be an additional $50 per month over what the city is currently paying for its website.

“You can check out Mabel’s page or Preston’s page,” she urged. “It’s really nicely put together. It’s also another bonus for all the businesses in town to have advertising. They can have a list of businesses with a link to their own pages… just a lot of sharing. It’s a good site for communication to be a constant for everyone in town to locate information.”

Lastly, there are still no candidates for the council seats open at the end of this year. Mayor Danielson has not filed for re-election, neither has Councilor David Gudmundson. The only councilor who has filed to retain the seat is Ron Reisner.

Filing dates for candidates end August 13 at 5 p.m. Candidates must submit an affidavit of candidacy to be included on the ballot. Those interested in filing for candidacy are encouraged to contact the city hall. There is a $2 filing fee.

The mayor’s term is two years, while the two council positions are for four years.
