Mary Treu obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Mary Ellen Aakre Treu, age 83, of Lanesboro, passed away at the Gunderson Harmony Care Center where she resided for a brief time.

Mary Ellen Aakre Treu was born on September 11, 1940, in Winona to Arnold and Marie (Boyum) Aakre. She attended Lanesboro area schools and graduated from high school in 1958. She continued her education at Winona State University.

On December 31, 1959, she married Wendell Freiheit. They were blessed with three children and lived in the Wykoff and Spring Valley area. They were later divorced. 

She married James Treu in the winter of 1984 and they later divorced. 

She was an avid writer, contributing to the regional papers. 

Mary had a great love for those around her and loved to joke with them. She had a wonderful sense of humor and greatly enjoyed helping everyone she met.

She is survived by her three children: Steven (Amy) Freiheit, Patricia (Joe) O’Connell and Michael (Sonja) Freiheit.

She is further survived by her sister and brothers: Elizabeth Ann Hubener of Austin, Tex., Stuart (Darlene) Aakre of Kingman, Ariz., and Lowell (Mary) Aakre of Nashvillle, Tenn.

Private burial will take place at a later date in the Lanesboro Cemetery.

Hoff Funeral Home of Lanesboro is assisting Mary’s family with arrangements. Condolences and memories can be left for the family at www.hofffuneral.com.
