Memorial service for Larry Fjetland was held 11 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with Rev. Deanna Woodward officiating. Burial took place at Osage Cemetery in Osage, Iowa. Visitation was held 1-4 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 ,at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and continued for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Larry Fjetland, age 83, of Harmony, Minn., died Wednesday September 13, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.

Larry Dean Fjetland was born April 7, 1934, in Rowen, Iowa, to Dan and Sadie (Van Buskirk) Fjetland. In 1953 Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1956. On January 21, 1956, Larry was united in marriage to Ruby Marie Gunsallus in Osage, Iowa.

Larry farmed with his wife Ruby near Corwith, Iowa until they moved to their farm near LeRoy, Minn., in 1974. He enjoyed farming, talking about crops, and fishing. His passion for fishing took him and Ruby to Edgemont, Ark., where they enjoyed their home overlooking Greers Ferry Lake.  They moved back to Harmony, Minn., in 2016 to be closer to family after receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Larry loved spending time with his wife and kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The grandkids had a special bond with their “Grumpy” and loved him dearly.  The great-grandkids brought him so much joy and loved seeing them.

Larry is survived by his wife Ruby of Harmony, Minn.; children: Julie Fjetland of Florida and Lori (Randy) Back of Fountain, Minn.; grandchildren: Nicole (Jason) Howard, Dustin (Gena) Thorson, Danielle (Lance) Peters, Tyler Back, Trista (Nick) Bortnem, Makayla Fjetland, Matt (Chloe) Fjetland, and Lucas Fjetland; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters Donna Johnson of Manly, Iowa, Judy Peil of Alexander, Iowa, and Betty Dungey of Osage, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Delbert and Michael Fjetland, two sisters, Lila and Vivian, and five brothers: Lorin, Donald, Danny, Darold, and Eldon.
