Shut-outs don’t happen too often in wrestling. Winning every match by a six-point decision is also rare. Both of the above events are certainly aided by a squad simply not having numbers and thus forfeiting. At the St. Charles triangular, Chatfield used low opponent numbers and pulled off both. They double dual shut-out St. Charles, 82-0, and La Crescent, 84-0. The Gophers were one match away from two 84-0 max-out wins. Versus SC, Chatfield got forfeits at 106 (Carson Rowland), 113 (Lukas Carrier), 145 (Seth Goetzinger), 160 (Campbell Berge), 170 (Grady Schott), 182 (Mason Clemens), 220 (A.J. Karver), and 285 (Hunter Van Dyke). Cael Bartels (120), Cody Guenther (132), Tate Karver (138), Luke Ihrke (152), and Isaiah Froese (195) posted pins for Chatfield. Karver’s pin was in OT and Ihrke’s in the third period while Kailan Schott (126) won an 8-0 major, SC’s best chance to lose the doughnut. The Lancers forfeited 113 (Bartels), 120 (Carrier), 126 (K. Schott), 138 (T. Karver), 145 (Goetzinger), 170 (G. Schott), 182 (Clemens), 195 (Froese), 220 (A.J. Karver), and 285 (Van Dyke). Rowland (106), Ihrke (152), and Berge (160) got pins while Guenther (132) won by injury default. The Gophers are 7-2, 13-3.
