Fillmore Central

Coaches: Aaron Mensink (girls), Brad Holten (boys).

Last Year at a Glance: The FC girls notably went 8-2. They boys went 6-5. The girls were TRC Meet champions.

FC’s boys tied for third (of 9) at the TRC Meet. The girls won their seventh straight 1A title. They made state, taking fifth place. The boys didn’t make Day Two of the 1A tourney. Jake Fishbaugher made state individually, impressively finishing tied for 9th place in Becker. Courtney Hershberger was 1A Meet champ and led FC’s girls at state with a 22nd place finish.

Key Returnees: (Girls) > Courtney Hershberger (Jr.), Marissa Topness (Sr.), Chloe Morem (Jr.), Lily Miller (Fr.), Myleigh Scheevel (Fr.), Aubrey Larson (So.). (Boys) > Jake Fishbaugher (Jr.), Luke Hellickson (So.), Tyler Mayer (So.) Anthony Kiehne (Fr.). Nate Storlie (Jr.).

2022 Prognosis: The girls return their entire Section 1A champion state qualifying team, though injuries are a concern. Last year’s Section 1A meet champion Courtney Hershberger is coming back from a basketball knee injury and Chloe Morem has a shoulder issue. Hershberger, Morem, Myleigh Scheevel, Marissa Topness, and Lily Miller all finished top 10 at last year’s 1A Meet. Hershberger, Morem, Topness, and Miller made All-TRC. FC’s girls are a year older and wiser, which should bode well. The boys bring back five of six 1A meet competitors including 1A third place finisher and state 9th place guy Jake Fishbaugher. A junior, he is a three-time state qualifier and owns the Preston Golf Club course record. He was All-TRC last season. Luke Hellickson and Tyler Mayer also are back after having made Day Two of sections.

Lanesboro

Coach: Krissy Overland

Last Year at a Glance: The Burros boys were SEC champions last year (10-0). The boys and girls both won the SEC Meet, though the gal’s field only had three teams. The boys won Section 1A and advanced to state. There they finished seventh. Cale Anderson was the Burros top state finishers (35th place).

Key Returnees: (Boys) > Hayden Lawstuen (Jr.), Kaden Stettler (So.), Clay Schwichtenberg (Sr.), Reece Benson (Sr.). (Girls) > Chloe Schnebly (Jr.), Jessie Schreiber (Jr.), Taylor Hanson (Fr.).

2022 Prognosis: The Burro boys graduated the Anderson twins (Cale, Caden) off last year’s six-man state squad. The other four guys return, though Hayden Lawstuen is out with an injury. Lawstuen was second at last year’s SEC Meet, seventh at the 1A Meet, and would be the top returning scorer off last year’s state team (56th place). Clay Schwichtenberg thus heads the cast, as he took third at the SEC Meet. Kaden Stettler also finished top 10. Both Schwichtenberg and Stettler finished top 20 at last year’s 1A Meet. Lawstuen, Schwichtenberg, and Stettler were All-SEC last season. Reese Benson is the third healthy key returnee (who made Day Two of sections). On the girls side, Chloe Schnebly and Jessie Schreiber are the top returnees. They went 1-2 at last year’s SEC Meet, making All-SEC. Schnebly tied for 10th at last year’s 1A Meet, just missing state.

Caledonia Warriors

Coaches: Alex Lange (boys), Robert Sobczak (girls).

Year at a Glance: The girls won the TRC East title last season (10-0). They took second to FC at the TRC Meet, as Jenna Wiebke was medalist. The boys took sixth at the TRC Meet. The girls made Day Two of the 1AA tourney, taking fifth. The boys were eliminated after Day One. Jenna Wiebke finished fifth at sections, making state. There she finished 8th overall.

Key Returnees: (Girls) > Libby Jilek (So.), Miranda Schroeder (Jr.), Lexie Hoscheit (Jr.), Elly Milde (Jr.). (Boys) > Evan Hawkins (Jr.), Laurent Stigeler (So), Riley Aasum.

2022 Prognosis: The gals graduated state qualifier Jenna Wiebke. but four of their six golfers from the 2021 1AA Meet are back. Libby Jilek, Miranda Schroeder, Lexie Hoscheit, and Elly Milde all made Day Two, finishing top 40. Jilek, Schroeder, and Hoscheit made All-TRC. The boys’ top golfer at last year’s 1AA Meet, Dominick Konkel, graduated. He was the only Warrior guy to make sections Day Two. Alex Lange takes over as the boys coach. He is a Fillmore Central grad and golfed on a Falcon state team in the late 2010s.

Chatfield Gophers

Coach: Paul Wagner

Last Year at a Glance: Both the boys and girls posted sub-.500 records. The girls took fourth at the TRC Meet, the boys 8th. Neither squad, or any individual, advanced to Day Two of the Section 1AA Meet.

Key Returnees: (Boys) > Colton Johnson (So.), Tadyn Burnett (So.), Bralyn Burnett (So.). (Girls) > Mya Henry (Fr.), Taylor Ask (So).

2022 Prognosis: Colton Johnson just missed the Day Two cut of the 1AA Meet last year as a frosh. The girls team had three seniors graduate. They have just three golfers this year.

Rushford-Peterson Trojans

Coach: Luke Rye

Last Year at a Glance: LARPs boys went 6-2 last season. Combined with Lewiston-Altura, they took second at the TRC Meet. The LARP girls took third. Neither the boys or the girls teams made Day Two of sections. Andrew Hoiness and Halle McElmury made the 1AA Meet Day Two cut individually.

Key Returnees: (Boys) > Andrew Hoiness (Sr.), Carson Thompson (Sr.), Grady Hengel (Jr.).

2022 Prognosis: L-A and R-P are now again separate for golf, so it is just the Trojans. Most of last year’s girls golfers were from L-A. R-P won’t field a gals team this year. Andrew Hoiness is the top boys returnee, as he just missed state by taking 11th at last year’s 1AA Meet. He is the only returning R-P golfer to make Day Two of sections. Hoiness tied for third at last year’s TRC Meet. Hoiness and Carson Thompson each made All-TRC. The Trojans will be back to Section 1A.

Kingsland Knights

Coach: Paul Eckheart

Last Year at a Glance: The boys finished fourth (of four complete teams) at last year’s SEC Meet. They didn’t make Day Two of sections. Kingsland did not field a girls team last season.

Key Returnees: Nick Eickhoff (Sr.), Kaden Rath (Sr.), Nathan O’Connell (Sr.), Ethan Carr.

2022 Prognosis: The Knights again will only have a boys team. They didn’t have a golfer make Day Two of last year’s 1A Meet, though Kaden Rath just missed the cut. Four of Kingsland’s six regular golfers from last year are back: Rath, Nick Eickhoff, Nathan O’Connell, and Ethan Carr. They’ll again play home meets in Preston.

Grand Meadow/LeRoy-

Ostrander Superlarks

Coach: Craig Knight

Last Year at a Glance: The GMLO boys took third (of four complete teams) as last year’s SEC Meet. They didn’t make Day Two of last year’s 1A meet. GMLO didn’t have a girls team in 2021.

Key Returnees: Taylor Glynn (Sr.), Nils Lee (Sr.).

2022 Prognosis: GMLO’s boys returns just two of their six golfers to compete at last year’s SEC and 1A Meets in Taylor Glynn and Nils Lee. Glynn tied for fourth at last year’s SEC Meet and tied for 9th at the 1A Meet, just missing state. He was All-SEC. GMLO will have a girls team this year, as two gals are out for golf.

 Houston Hurricanes

Coaches: (Boys) > Kiel Koehler. (Girls) > Ryan Gatzlaff.

Last Year at a Glance: Houston’s boys were incomplete at the SEC Meet. The girls took third (of three complete teams). Neither squad made Day Two of the 1A Meet.

Key Returnees: (Girls) > Erin Walters (Sr.), Hannah Weichert. (Boys) > Preston Peterson (So.), Ethan Knutson (So.).

2022 Prognosis: Erin Walters is the only returning Hurricane to make Day Two of last year’s 1A Meet. She made All-SEC by finishing fifth at last year’s SEC Meet. Hurricane teams combine for just nine golfers.
