Cross Country: Rakosnik Title Helps L/FC Girls Take Second in Stewie

For the 52nd time, Stewartville hosted its (usually) annual Bill Glomski cross country run at Bear Cave Park. Thirteen complete girls teams and 16 complete boys squads competed. Achieving something that even the esteemed sophomore had yet to do, Lanesboro/Fillmore Central’s Autumn Rakosnik was the first to cross the line (by more than a minute) and her performance helped the Burros nearly do something they have not done in Stewartville in a decade. Rakosnik, a state top 10 finisher last year, cruised across the line (19:46.2) well in front of her nearest competitors, Waseca’s Stella Omvedt (20:55.6), Goodhue’s Ayva Marklevits (21:05.5) and La Crescent/Hokah’s Hope Docan-Morgan (21:07.6). A second-place finisher at said race last year, Rakosnik’s first added another nice honor to her running mantle. L/FC as a team put four in the top 25 of a race with 101 finishing competitors. Senior Lillyan Kiehne (who finished fourth at the event in 2022) took 15th place (22:27.8) while twins Grace Kinglsey (23:18.8) and Charity Kingsley (23:19) took 23rd and 24th. Eliza Cullen (47th place) rounded out L/FC’s scoring runners, as Ellen Cullen’s group (101) tied with Pine Island (101) to take second behind Byron (83), just ahead of Waseca (105) and Rochester-Lourdes (106). L/FC won the invite back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015 (and took third in 2021). Journal-covered schools GMLOS, Chatfield and Kingsland also competed with the latter two not running full squads. Naomi Warmka (23:05.1) took 20th to lead team-GM, which finished ninth. Reeyin Lanning (23:.49.5) took 34th to lead the Knights, which had four runners. Chatfield did not have a finisher in the top 50, as only two Gophers competed. Stewartville (55) won the boys race over RAACHE (72) and Pine Island (97) with Chatfield (137) taking fourth and GMLOS 16th. L/FC was incomplete. Stewartville’s Nolan Schatz (17:26.6) won the individual boys title over RAACHE’s Luke Dirks (17:46.6) and Pacelli’s Zemecha McManus (17:48.3). Ben Peeters (18:42.5) and Max Hoover (18:55) took 13th and 14th place to lead Chatfield. Maddex Lanning took 27th and Ivar Stavlund 33rd place to give the Gophers four in the top 35 (of 118 finishing runners). Riley Grant took 37th place to pace L/FC. Each race was 5,000-meters, which has sometimes not happened in the past per early-season heat at the event. The 2025 incarnation was run in around 80-degree temperatures.

Cross Country: LARPH Teams Fully Sweep W-K Gallup

It was not a large meet. Only five complete guy and four complete girls teams competed. But LARPH’s teams pulled the cross-country sweep, winning both team competitions and getting the individual winner in each race. LARPH’s guys doing so was not a huge feat. They have been a section power for over half a decade. But led by sophomore Caitlin Bauer, who finished the two-mile course the quickest (12:44), the Card-Tro-Cane girls (48) bested Z-M/K-W (53), PEM (53) and W-K (66) of the complete teams. Kingsland and Durand-Arkansas were incomplete. Z-M/K-W’s Lily Duden (13:04.8) and W-K’s Macy Kohrs (13:42.4) took second and third behind Bauer, who won her first varsity race. LARPH runners Glory Erickson (14th) and Vada Larson (15th) cracked the top 15 (of 34) total runners. Kingsland got two in the top 10, Kaylie Betts (14:06.4) in fifth place and Reeyin Lanning (14:16) in seventh. On the guys side, Matt Kingsbury’s group (20) breezed to the title over Z-M/K-W (67), Durand-Arkansas (81), W-K (93), and PEM (109). Eight Card-Tro-Cane runners finished top 14 (of 48 runners)! Senior Isaac Rasmuseen (10:18.9) grabbed the two-mile individual title over Z-M/K-W’s Caleb Kevan (10:27.1). LARPH runners Aaron Ploetz (10:32.2), Grayson Speltz (10:33.3), and Trey Hegland (10:37.4) took third, fourth, and fifth. Hunter Rislov (10:58.3) took seventh and Brennan Kunst (11:03.5) ninth, as six of the top 10 ran in black and red. Will Jewison (13th place) and Damian Gossen (14th place) also finished top 15 for LARPH. As per the norm at the W-K Gallup at Coffee Mill Golf Course. LARPH’s boys are ranked #2 in the pre-season Class A rankings behind Section foe Cotter/Hope Lutheran, which has three guys (Erik Semling, Ryan Littlefield, Kellen Growth) ranked in the top 12.
