Larks Run Streak to Six With Overtime Win They are currently on the longest win streak of the 21 basketball teams covered by the Fillmore County Journal. But to get there, there was a comeback win, and then nearly a collapse in a tense overtime game, both contests at Hayfield’s holiday tourney. LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli senior quarterback/defensive back Camden Hungerholt has been named Mr. Football for 2024 by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. He is the first 9-Man player to receive the award in the 21 years of its existence.  Hungerholt was honored on December 15 at the Mr. Football banquet in St. Louis Park. LARP wrestling notched wins over Triton (36-33), Waseca (48-28), and Rochester-Century (45-21) at the Cobras triangular, then beat Lake City (55-12). The Screamin’ Eagles (2-0, 11-0) stayed perfect on the year. Grand Meadow Ends 31-Game Losing Streak Last season, a young Grand Meadow boys team went 0-27.  Adding in a couple losses to end the 2022-2023 campaign, and a couple more to start this season, the Superlarks losing streak sat at 31. Chatfield Students Sign Letters of Intent

Chatfield’s Javier Berg recently signed a letter of intent to wrestle collegiately at North Dakota State. Berg is flanked by his sister Chloe, mom Elizabeth Fugelstad, step-dad Derek Fugelstad, and Chatfield head wrestling coach Matt Mauseth. Spring Grove’s Zach Brumm attacks from the block over Kingsland’s Max Erdman in the teams’ SEC match-up in Spring Valley. A super close game saw the Lions pull away late for a 65-50 victory.

Hurricanes Notch Notable Early Win Over Schaeffer Academy Schaeffer Academy entered the contest riding high after beating usual SEC-East top dog Spring Grove. The Rochester Lions entered undefeated (4-0, 4-0) with other SEC wins over Kingsland, Lanesboro and Mabel-Canton. Houston entered having played just one game, with about a week since it occurred. FCLMC’s Kane Larson notched four tech falls and a pin to win the 175-pound weight class at the 15-team La Crosse-Logan wrestling tourney. Ranked #5 at 172 in Class A, Larson improved to 11-1.
