For a second straight year, Chatfield wrestling grabbed the Bi-State team title, not only in the Division III portion, but overall. Girls Wrestling: Christenson’s Title Highlights Area Girls at Bi-State A year ago, at the first ever girls Bi-State wrestling tournament, GMLOS had five placers and Chatfield two. Trojans Series with FC and Lanesboro Highlights Shoot-For-Three Games Rushford-Peterson hosted their Holiday 3-Coops Shoot-For-Three tournament. Larks Run Streak to Six With Overtime Win They are currently on the longest win streak of the 21 basketball teams covered by the Fillmore County Journal. But to get there, there was a comeback win, and then nearly a collapse in a tense overtime game, both contests at Hayfield’s holiday tourney. LARP wrestling notched wins over Triton (36-33), Waseca (48-28), and Rochester-Century (45-21) at the Cobras triangular, then beat Lake City (55-12). The Screamin’ Eagles (2-0, 11-0) stayed perfect on the year. Grand Meadow Ends 31-Game Losing Streak Last season, a young Grand Meadow boys team went 0-27.  Adding in a couple losses to end the 2022-2023 campaign, and a couple more to start this season, the Superlarks losing streak sat at 31. Hurricanes Notch Notable Early Win Over Schaeffer Academy Schaeffer Academy entered the contest riding high after beating usual SEC-East top dog Spring Grove. The Rochester Lions entered undefeated (4-0, 4-0) with other SEC wins over Kingsland, Lanesboro and Mabel-Canton. Houston entered having played just one game, with about a week since it occurred. FCLMC’s Kane Larson notched four tech falls and a pin to win the 175-pound weight class at the 15-team La Crosse-Logan wrestling tourney. Ranked #5 at 172 in Class A, Larson improved to 11-1. #6 Warriors Improved to 6-0 with Three Wins Caledonia’s girls played three games on the week, posting three wins. They scored 206 total points while holding their foes to just 64. Chatfield’s Alden Pearson has the leg of Kasson-Mantorville’s Broc Vaughn in the combatants 145-pound bout. Pearson’s 5-0 decision win was one of eight victories for the Class A #1 Gophers in their 39-15 win over the Class AA #1-ranked KoMets.
