Spring Grove’s Zach Brumm attacks from the block over Kingsland’s Max Erdman in the teams’ SEC match-up in Spring Valley. A super close game saw the Lions pull away late for a 65-50 victory.

Hurricanes Notch Notable Early Win Over Schaeffer Academy Schaeffer Academy entered the contest riding high after beating usual SEC-East top dog Spring Grove. The Rochester Lions entered undefeated (4-0, 4-0) with other SEC wins over Kingsland, Lanesboro and Mabel-Canton. Houston entered having played just one game, with about a week since it occurred. #6 Warriors Improved to 6-0 with Three Wins Caledonia’s girls played three games on the week, posting three wins. They scored 206 total points while holding their foes to just 64. Caledonia Area Public School board members met Monday, December 16 at Caledonia Elementary School in room #162. Football: Southeast-White All-District Honors

Chatfield (6-0, 11-1) won the Southeast-White for the third time in four years while Cannon Falls (4-2, 8-3), Triton (4-2, 8-3), and Caledonia (4-2, 7-3) each tied for second. Three Ranked  Teams in Play in  Caledonia/R-P Series Caledonia and Rushford-Peterson played their first basketball series of the year. The guys battle pitted #3 Class AA Warriors versus the Class A #9 Trojans. Using their length, Brad King’s group was too much for a young R-P group. Lanesboro’s Elianna Cassman looks to pass the ball as South Winn’s Vanessa Bullerman defends in the teams’ non-conference affair. The Burros posted a 50-28 win to start the year 3-0. They ended their week falling to Southland in a nailbiter 49-48.

Larks Fight Past Neighbors, Knights and Rebels Grand Meadow girls basketball had a two-game week, playing familiar faces (from track and field) in squads from Southland and Kingsland. Class A #1-ranked Chatfield wrestling got its season going strong by winning the mostly Class AA and AAA, 11-school Lakeville-North Tourney. Individual champs for the Gophers were Jameson Priebe (107), Logan Pearson (114), Javier Berg (127), Carson Rowland (160), and Ayden Miner (172).

Gopher Guys Win Lakeville North Tourney Ranked #1 in Class A to start the season, Chatfield wrestling is probably destined to win a weekend individual tourney or two this year. In their first tourney of the season, at Lakeville-North, the Gophers (242) won their first team title, topping nearest foes St. Croix-Central (177.5) and Northfield (175.5).
