With the spring season shorter than others, the Journal Sports Director has less opportunities to form opinions on softball players. Stats overall are also incomplete. And thus a carefully done top 20 is tough to do. Only an unofficial ranking will precede each player. Below are the softball players who stood out over the past decade. Players who missed a season aren’t … [Read more...]

A Decade’s Worth of Sports Part II
Football had the unique aspect that five of the seven Journal-covered schools all were coached the entire decade by the same guys. In volleyball, only Lonnie Morken accomplished the feat as a pure head coach. The volleyball All-Decade team is 20 deep. Those listed had to be covered by the Journal Sports. Those whose careers spanned just into 2010 are less regarded. … [Read more...]

It was a solid year for wrestling in the county. Chatfield put together another excellent season, posting a win over the eventual section champion and sending three guys to state. LARP had some strong guys in the lower weights and got a state entrant. FCLMC, for the first time in many years, fielded a full unit and thus picked up a bunch of wins. Six Gophers and a pair of … [Read more...]
Young Trojans Fall in Quarters
Only one Journal-covered boys basketball team made it out of the Round of 16 of their respective section tournaments. It wasn’t a shock it was R-P, but the section four cast will not include the Trojans. Maybe in a couple years, when this young Trojan group matures, their game versus Hayfield will be just a blip. Hopefully, this season will just be a blip, as it’s been … [Read more...]
