LARP Boys Win Second Race

September 21, 2020 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - Cross Country Sports

It is to be expected.  When you are a defending state team qualifier with your top runners back, and then the number of teams at every cross country meet are diminished due to COVID-19, you will probably win often.  In their second meet of the year, LARP’s boys again ran to victory.  Matt Kingsbury’s group (19) didn’t have much trouble beating R.A.A.C.E. (40) and W-K (78) to … [Read more...]

September 14, 2020 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal- Sports Returns

If there is a silver lining to the new altered cross country season, which sees only three teams per meet, but thus a lot more meets, it is that the Journal-covered programs will host more than in previous seasons.  The first week of September saw Lanesboro/Fillmore Central and Kingsland both hosts meets, the first for either since the Knights hosted many years ago at Root … [Read more...]

September 11, 2020 by Paul Trende

Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson: Last year’s headlining C-C team came from the L-A/R-P share. Matt Kingsbury’s guys took the next, big step. COVID’s Impact Alters 2020 Fall Sports Season

September 11, 2020 by Paul Trende

Paul Trende - Fillmore County Journal Sports Writer

It will be a unique fall sports season. With the Minnesota State High School league coming to the decision to move near-contact sports football and volleyball to the spring (due to COVID-19), cross country and soccer will be the only fall sports (pertaining to local schools) left to go on. It makes what would’ve been a very busy fall sports season, a skeleton of its former … [Read more...]

High School Sports Year in Review 2019-2020

June 22, 2020 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - Weekly Newspaper Serving Southeast Minnesota's Bluff Country - Paul Trende, Sports Reporter

This past high school sports season, and high school year itself, will always be remembered for its ending.  The corona virus terminated the state girls basketball play-offs prematurely, ended boys basketball state before it even transpired, and suspended and then cancelled spring sports.  The school year followed, at least in the classroom learning.  Graduations, proms, and … [Read more...]

The All-Decade track and field top 20.  Rankings are based off of state qualifications and section/state success, which also includes True Team.  Athletes who graduated in 2010 aren’t as regarded.  One makes the list anyway.  Because of time restraints and coaching changes, only a couple coaches were reached for comment.  For rankings 21-35, go to … [Read more...]
