The second girls individual section tourney took place.  Six area gals qualified for state at the Sections 1 & 3 event in Redwood Falls.  FCLMC’s Vivienne Hoeltzle and Katie Whelan, LARP’s Lauren Honken, head the cast.  Hoeltlzle, a junior ranked #9, authored four pins to earn the 118-pound crown.  She topped GMLOS frosh Brandy Christenson in the finals.  Christenson had three first period pins to make the finals.   Both Hoeltzle (21-6) and Christenson (20-10) qualified for state.  Whelan (190-pounds) needed just two pins to re-qualify for state.  The senior (13-5), ranked #4, beat Mayo’s Olivia Martinez (11-2) in the finals.  Whelan went as Section 1 & 2 runner-up last year.  Like Hoeltzle, Honken racked up four pins, taking 106-pounds.  She topped Z-M’s Macy Schaefer (26-9) in the finals.  The senior (16-4) is now a two-sport individual state qualifier (Pole Vault).  GMLOS’ Diann Smith (136) and Chatfield’s Chloe Berg (124) earned return trips to state via runner-up finishes.  Smith won two falls to make the finals, then fell by 9-3 decision to Byron’s #9 Hattie Mathre (28-8).  The Bulldog senior (28-4) pinned Hastings’ Grace Gerlach (13-6) in a true second.  Chatfield’s Berg (19-6) won an 8-0 major and two falls to make the finals (124) before falling to Northfield’s #7 Lainey Houts (22-5) by 12-5 decision. Berg did not have a true second.  Both Smith and Berg, each ranked #3, went as Section 1 & 2 champs last year.  Gopher Emily Bova (16-8) took third at 100, losing her first match by 6-4 decision, then winning four in a row to make a true second.  She then fell by 14-0 major.  FCLMC’s Charlotte Ferrie (20-8) took third at 130.  She won two, lost in the semis, and then won two more to earn a true second.  There she fell by fall.  GMLOS’ Kloe Meyer (14-10) took third at 235, losing her first match, then winning three. She got no true second.  Chatfield’s Brynn Horsman (19-9) went 4-2 to take fourth at 118.  FCLMC’s Kylie Knutson (12-11) went 3-2 to take fourth at 106.  GMLOS’ Megan Geier (2-3) went 1-2 to take fourth at 190.  GMLOS had nine girls compete, Chatfield eight, FCLMC five, LARP three, and Cal/Hou one.
