#1 Chatfield Dominates it Way to Repeat 1A Title
It is the most dominant one-year Section 1A run, both in terms of points scored, and fewest points given up, in the last 17 years (since such things are cataloged on theguillotine.com). It the most dominant two-year run in 1A in the same period. In the 2025 1A finals, Chatfield senior Carson Rowland authored a pin to beat Goodhue’s Jack O’Reilly. The win secured the Gophers a state berth, with things already decided at 152-pounds. Chatfield led 37-3. They went on to win 54-14, dropping just three weights, all to ranked Goodhue wrestlers: #9 Lucas Erickson (114), #4 Jack Carlson (285), and #2 Caleb Kurtti (215)). Said finals win came after Chatfield dominated Triton (9-seed, 9-11) in the quarters 70-6, and LARP (4-seed, 17-8) in the semis 68-3. The three dual score was thus 192-23! The last run of similar dominance in 1A was Kenyon-Wanamingo in 2009. They outscored foes 171-25. The Gophers are the first repeat 1A champs since Z-M (2017, 2018). Over the two years, six section matches, Chatfield outscored foes 353-61. The 61 points given up are less than the previous five 1A champs, Caledonia/Houston (2023), Dover-Eyota (2022), Z-M (2021), GMLOS (2021), and Goodhue (2020) gave up in their one-year title runs. Versus Triton, the only weight dropped was 285. Jameson Priebe (107), Logan Pearson (114), Kaisen Johnson (127), Layne Root (133), Hunter Polikowsky (139), Alden Pearson (145), Sean Kirschner (189), and Will Boelter (215) had pins. Only Kirschner’s was not in the first period. Rowland (152) and Ben Carrier (172) won by forfeit. Javier Berg (121) and Ayden Miner (160) won 15-0 and 17-2 tech falls. Versus LARP, which made its first section semifinal appearance in the Journal-Sports era (since 2011), the only weight dropped was 189. D’Andre Williams fell to 8th-ranked Screamin’ Eagle Zach Plank by 5-1 decision. It was Plank’s 100th win. Priebe (107), Johnson (127), Carrier (172), Cole Ramaker (215), and Boelter (285) had first period pins. LARP was not at full strength, down four regulars including #8 Owen Lange (127) and #5 Quintin Betthauser (145). Chatfield’s L-Pearson (114), Root (133), and A-Pearson (145) took forfeit wins. Berg (121), Polikowsky (139), Rowland (152), and Miner (160) won 18-2, 16-1, 19-4, and 15-0 tech falls. Versus Goodhue (3-seed, 20-11), Priebe (107), Berg (121), Johnson (127), Carrier (172), and Kirchner (189) joined Rowland with pins. Root (133), Polikowsky (139), and Miner (160) won 17-0, 17-2, and 18-3 tech falls. Seventh-ranked Alden Pearson (145) got a takedown of Hayden Holm (#9 at 139) in overtime to win 6-3. It was the Gophers’ only decision win in the run! Miner (quarters) and Johnson (semis) notably notched their 100th career wins. Goodhue made the finals when Kurtti topped K-W’s Charles Koncur by 17-5 major at 285 to give the Wildcats the 30-29 win. K-W, which has five guys ranked through 145-pounds, jumped out 25-6. Goodhue won five of the final six weights. Chatfield (18-2) heads back to St. Paul looking to defend their Class A title. They boast nine ranked guys, Priebe (#1 at 107), L-Pearson (#5 at 114), Berg (#3 at 121), Johnson (#5 at 127), A-Pearson (#7 at 145), Rowland (#1 at 152), Miner (#1 at 160), Carrier (#3 at 172), and Boelter (#9 at 215). It was their fourth straight 1A final and sixth since 2013, with four championships.

9-seed Triton (8-11) 45, 8-seed GMLOS (15-14) 30 (The Cobras started with three wins for an 18-0 lead and then never trailed. GMLOS pulled to down 23-18 after 145, fell back 33-18 after 160, only to rally to down 33-30 after 189, but dropped the last two weights by fall. Parker Armagost (127), Cael Smith (139), Jaydence Ward (145), and Drake Payne (189) had pins for the Bulldogs while Ayden Stier (172) won by forfeit. GMLOS finishes at 15-15)
5-seed Dover-Eyota (7-12) 27, 4-seed LARP (16-8) 38 (D-E won four of the first six matches to lead 18-10 after 139, but LARP then took five of the next six bouts. Pins by Zach Plank (189) and Chase Drazkowski (215) put the Screaming Eagles ahead 38-24. Carter LaFee (107) and Nolan Happel (160) also won by fall. Quintin Betthauser (145) and Carter Cady (152) won 17-0 and 15-0 tech falls while Christian Zibrowski (121) won a 15-5 major decision)
10-seed Wabasha-Kellogg (0-11) 16, 7-seed FCLMC (8-15) 52 (FCLMC took forfeits at 107 (Ben Norby), 114 (Beckett Hovland), 152 (William Boettcher), 215 (Cole Sass), and 285 (James Cullen). August Pfeffer (121) and Quinci Kaase (160) won by fall, Ashton Newman (145) and Kane Larson (189) by 21-3 and 18-1 tech falls); 7-seed FCLMC (9-15) 17, 2-seed #10 in A Kenyon-Wanamingo (18-7) 60 (FCLMC lost the first 10 weights to trail 60-0. J-Cullen (215) and C-Sass (285) won by fall, K-Larson (189) by 19-4 tech fall. The Wolves finish at 9-16)
11-seed Waseca (5-19) 30, 6-seed Caledonia/Houston (12-12) 44 (The Warriors built a 44-12 lead heading to the last three weights. Walker Kohlmeyer (107), Aaren Kulas (121), Hunter Frank (127), Tanner Ginther (145), and Will Allen (152) won by fall. Aiden Burns (114) won by forfeit. Braxton Lange (133) and Charlie Mauss (172) won a 13-1 and 14-3 major decision); 6-seed Cal/Hou (13-12) 27, 3-seed Pine Island (14-4) 33 (Cal/Hou’s upset bid was nixed at heavyweight when, in a 27-27 match, PI’s Dylan Schandorff pinned Anthony VonArx in the first period. The Warriors led or the match was tied up through 152 pounds before PI took 160 and 172 by fall to lead 27-19. Warrior Cooper Allen (189) won by 11-7 decision and Aden Kulas (215) by 11-0 major decision to tie the match, setting up the ending. Cal/Hou’s B-Lange (133) and W-Allen (152) each won in sudden victory, 3-0 and 4-1 respectively. W-Kohlmeyer (107) won a 9-8 decision. A-Burns (114) won by fall and T. Ginther (138) by 18-1 tech fall.
