Wrestling: #1 Gophers Sweep GMLOS/PEM, Sweep to TRC Title
For a second straight year, Chatfield wrestling is the dominant TRC champions. The Gophers wrapped up their regular season dual-schedule by hosting GMLOS and PEM. Chatfield surrendered just three matches the entire night. Matt Mauseth’s group took out GMLOS 72-6. Jameson Priebe (107), Logan Pearson (114), Javier Berg (121), and Kaisen Johnson (127) started the night with first period pins. Alden Pearson (145), Carson Rowland (152), D’Andre Williams (189) and Will Boelter (215) also won via pin in the first 2:00. Hunter Polikowskiy (139) got his pin in the third period. Layne Root (133), Ayden Miner (160), and Ben Carrier (172) won by forfeit. GMLOS’ only win was Rowan Sween’s pin at 285. PEM fell 59-9. Pins were a little less frequent and quick, but L-Pearson (114), Berg (121), Polikowsky (139), and Cole Ramaker (285) did so. Chatfield more benefitted from four upper weight forfeits, at 152 (Rowland), 160 (Miner), 172 (Carrier), and 215 (Boelter). Priebe (107) and Root (133) added 11-2 and 10-1 major decision wins, Johnson (127) a 9-2 decision win. PEM’s two wins were a Maeson Tradup (189) pin and Aiden Graner (145) topping A-Pearson 7-3. Notably, Chatfield’s top-ranked senior, defending state champion Rowland notched his 175th career win. Chatfield (9-0, 15-2) ran the table convincingly in the conference, giving up 46 total teams points (5.1 per match)! GMLOS won the battle of Bulldogs 42-36. PEM led 30-28 after 152, but forfeited three of the next four weights, lost four in a row overall, as GMLOS went ahead 42-30 after 215. Parker Armagost (121), Teague Alden (133), Cael Smith (139), and Drake Payne had pins for Randy Smith’s crew. Calum Sween (160), Zac Gehling (172), and Wyatt Krull (215) won by forfeit. GMLOS is 3-5, 15-13.
Wrestling: LARP Triangular Ends with Tight Match Versus Cal/Hou
In one of the last TRC triangulars of the season, LARP hosted Caledonia/Houston and Dover-Eyota. The main event was the home Screamin’ Eagles versus the Warriors. The tri began with the Warriors, finally near full strength, taking on D-E. Shay Mahoney and Justin Conway’s group got pins from Walker Kohlmeyer (107), Aiden Burns (114), and Hunter Frank (127), an 11-2 major decision from Aaren Kulas (121), and an 8-2 decision from Braxton Lange (133) to lead 25-0 early. D-E won three matches by fall, but the Warriors won 10 of 13 bouts overall. Will Allen (152) and Anthony VonArx (215) added pins, Tanner Ginther (139) and Cooper Allen (189) 19-3 and 17-0 tech falls, Aden Kulas (285) an 8-2 decision. Cal/Hou prevailed 50-18. LARP then took on D-E and controlled things. The score was 36-16 after 160 before Darrin Hegland’s group won the final four for a 57-16 win. Nine of LARP’s 10 wins came by fall; Carter LaFee (107), Christian Zibrowski (121), Owen Lange (127), Jaxson Johnson (1309), Quintin Betthauser (145), Carter Cady (152), Levi Kammerer (172), Zach Plank (189), and Chace Drazkowski (185). Trygg Hegland (215) won a 6-2 decision. The marquee dual was then LARP (6-1, 16-6) versus Caledonia/Houston (5-2, 9-12) in two of the TRC’s top programs not named Chatfield. Cal/Hou got two pins out of the gate (Kohlmeyer, Burns) to lead 12-0. They then never trailed. But the teams went back-and-forth winning back-to-back matchup thru 172-pounds. Max Schmitz’s 15-1 major (160) and Charlie Mauss’ 6-1 decision (172) gave the Warriors a 28-19 lead with three weights left. LARP’s Zach Plank (189) toughed out a 2-1 decision over Cooper Allen, but Warrior senior Aden Kulas (215) followed with a 9-1 major decision win. It gave Cal/Hou a 32-22 lead. LARP’s Drazkowski ended the dual with a pin. The Warriors prevailed 32-28. B-Lange (133) had a 21-1 tech fall win and Ginther (139) a 9-0 major for the Warriors’ other two victories. LARP’s Betthauser (145) also had a pin. Zibrowski (121) and Lange (127) won 15-0 and 17-1 tech falls. Carter Cady topped Will Allen (152) by 11-4 decision in sudden victory overtime in the dual’s other great match. The Warriors improved to 6-2 in the TRC, 10-12 overall. LARP is 6-2, 16-7.

Triton Triangular > GMLOS 44, Triton 29 (Triton won the first two to lead 12-0, and the score was 29-21 Cobras after 160, but GMLOS won the final four weights. Parker Armagost (127), Jaydence Ward (145), Ayden Stier (172), Drake Payne (189), and Wyatt Krull (215) won by fall for the Bulldogs, Cael Smith (139) by forfeit, Rowan Sween (285) by 19-2 tech fall, and Lincoln Lunning (121) by 12-9 decision); GMLOS 50, New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva 19 (Armagost (127), Teague Alden (133), Smith (139), Calum Sween (152), and Payne (189) won by fall, Lincoln Soltau (121) and R-Sween (285) by forfeit, Ward (145) by 16-0 tech fall, Krulll (215) by 5-3 decision. GMLOS is 10-5 in its last 15 duals)
FCLMC Triangular > La Crescent/Hokah 12, FCLMC 61 (Ben Norby (107), Beckett Hovland (114), Brady Arnold (127), Ashton Newman (145), William Boetcher (160), Kane Larson (172), Cole Sass (189), and James Cullen (285) had falls for the Wolves. August Pfeffer (121) won by forfeit, Grant Daniels (139) by 17-7 major decision, Quinci Kaase (160) by 10-9 decision); Wabasha-Kellogg 24, FCLMC 49 (W-K won four of the first five to lead 24-6, but FCLMC then won out. Cooper Hovland (215) and Cullen (285) had pins. Norby (107), Boettcher (152), and Larson (172) won by forfeit. Daniels (139), Kaase (160) and Sass (189) won 18-3, 20-3, and 17-0 tech falls, Newman (145) a 10-0 major decision. Wolves > 3-6, 5-15)
Wisconsin Dells Tourney (GMLOS took fifth (131.5) with Watertown (178) topping Brillion (166.5) for first (of 14 teams). P. Armagost (126 > won two falls, lost fall), C. Smith (138 > won fall, won 10-8 decision, lost fall), and Ayden Stier (175 > won fall, won 8-5 decision, lost fall) took second. T. Alden (132 > won fall, lost 13-0 major decision, won 17-2 tech fall) and Rowan Sween (285 > won fall, lost fall, won fall) took third. Armagost is notably 29-8, Smith is 32-7)
Eau Claire Girls Tourney (FCLMC and LARP’s girls competed, finishing in the bottom half of a 29-team event. Forest Lake (374.5) took first over Apple Valley (281.5). FCLMC’s Charlotte Ferrie (126 > won three falls, lost disqualification) took second in the A-bracket)
Pine Island Tourney (LARP (102) took eighth and FCLMC (91) ninth of 16 teams. Kenyon-Wanamingo (169) topped Hutchinson (168) for first. Wolves Kane Larson (172 > won two falls, won 16-1 tech fall) and Cole Sass (189 > won 15-2 major decision, won 6-4 decision over LARP’s Zach Plank, won fall over Northfield AAA #6 Owen Murphy) each went 3-0 to take first. Larson is 32-3, Sass 28-9. Larson set the FCLMC win record at 157 and counting, breaking the former mark set by Phil LaFleur. LARP’s Christian Zibrowski (121 > won 20-2 and 16-1 tech falls, won 10-0 major decision, lost 10-7 decision) took second. Quintin Betthauser (145 > won two falls, lost 9-8 decision, won two falls) and Zach Plank (189 > won two falls, lost 6-4 decision to FCLMC’s Sass, won two falls) each went 4-1 to take third. Zibrowski is 24-3, Betthauser 30-8, Plank 35-7)
