Gopher Guys Win Lakeville North Tourney
Ranked #1 in Class A to start the season, Chatfield wrestling is probably destined to win a weekend individual tourney or two this year. In their first tourney of the season, at Lakeville-North, the Gophers (242) won their first team title, topping nearest foes St. Croix-Central (177.5) and Northfield (175.5). Said event was all bigger schools also including the hosts Lakeville-North, Chaska/Chanhassen, Blaine, Rosemount, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, Baldwin-Woodville, Rochester JM and Faribault. Top-ranked Jameson Priebe (107 > fall, fall, 20-5 tech fall), Logan Pearson (114 > fall, 13-2 major), #6 at 121 Javier Berg (127 > 21-5 tech fall, three falls), #1 at 152 Carson Rowland (160 > three falls, 8-0 major decision), and #2 at 160 Ayden Miner (172 > 16-1 tech fall, 4-1 decision, 5-3 decision) all won titles. Berg topped C-E-C’s Aiden Theisen (AA #3 at 114) for his crown and he earned the tourney’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. Miner topped C-E-C-s Michael Gillette (AA #6 at 172) in the semis. Gunner Polikowski (107 > won two falls, won 16-1 tech fall, lost 20-5 tech fall) took second to teammate Priebe. Kaisen Johnson (133 > won 17-1 tech fall, won fall, won 7-6 decision, lost 6-5 decision) also took second. Wes Goetzinger (114 > lost 16-1 tech fall, won 16-1 tech fall, won 8-5 decision), Will Boelter (220 > won two falls, lost 10-7 decision, won two falls), and Cole Ramaker (285 > lost fall, won four falls) each took third, Boelter and Ramaker going 4-1. Thirteen of 14 Gophers to wrestle had at least two wins and 12 of 14 placed top four. Collectively, they went 39-13.
LARP Sweeps FCLMC Tri, Spamtown Duals
The 2024-2025 wrestling season got going with FCLMC hosting a triangular with LARP and St. Charles. The Screamin’ Eagles came away with the two dual sweep. Darrin Hegland’s group beat the Wolves 64-12. LARP won the nine wrestled bouts. Michael Alexander (133), Carter Bronk (139), Quintin Betthauser (145), Nolan Happel (160), Zach Plank (189), Chase Drazkowski (215), and Jaden Perez (285) notched pins while Carter LaFee (107) and Carter Cady (152) won 16-0 and 19-3 tech falls. LARP took forfeit wins at 121 (Christian Zibrowski) and 127 (Owen Lange), FCLMC forfeits at 114 (August Pfeffer) and 172 (Kane Larson). The Screamin’ Eagles beat St. Charles 47-20. Said match was 24-20 after 160, but LARP won the final four weights. Zibrowski (121) and Lange (127) had pins. Colten Jenkins won via disqualification (slammed with his arm trapped). Cady (152) and Perez (285) won 15-0 and 17-1 tech falls. Bronk (139) won a 23-12 major decision. Alexander (133) toughed out a 3-2 decision victory over Crosby Kobs. It was LARP’s only decision win of the meet. Happel (160) lost a tough 14-12 decision, coming back from down 9-3 after two periods. The S-Eagles won forfeits at 189 (Plank) and 215 (Drazkowski). They forfeited 114. St. Charles then took out FCLMC 44-29. Kane Larson (172) and Beau Lacey (285) had FCLMC’s pins. Lacey trailed 7-0 after one period before getting a second period stick. Quinci Kaase (152) won a 17-2 tech fall. The Wolves took 189 (Cole Sass) and 215 (James Cullen) by forfeit. FCLMC was open at 107, 121, 127 and 133. New wrestling rules were in affect with three-point takedowns and up to four-point near-falls, making matches quicker and scoring more plentiful. LARP and FCLMC also took on Austin’s Spamtown Duals (See “Wrestling” for more). The Screamin’ Eagles notably went 5-0 to improve to 7-0. Info for LARP in Austin was incomplete at press time.

La Crescent Triangular > LC/H 18, GMLOS 57 (Teague Alden (133), Cael Smith (139), Zac Gehling (172), Ayden Stier (189), and Rowan Sween (285) won by fall. Wyatt Krull (215) won an 11-4 decision. The Bulldogs took forfeits at 114 (Kalvin Prieve), 121 (Lincoln Soltau), 127 (Parker Armagost), and 145 (Jaydence Ward); GMLOS 18, Dover-Eyota 57 (P. Armagost (127), C. Smith (139), and Calum Sween (152) had pins for the Bulldogs)
Hutchinson/Buffalo-Lake Hector Girls Tourney (Chatfield’s girls (110) took third behind Forest Lake (247) and Eagan (133.5) with 18 teams competing. Emily Bova (106 > won four falls) took first while Melody Ward (100 > won two falls, lost fall) and Kendyl Nolte (148 > won three falls, lost fall) took second to highlight the Gopher finishers)
Austin Spamtown Duals (LARP went 5-0. Results for duals with Lakeville-South and Hudson were not supplied by press time. GMLOS went 3-2, FCLMC went 1-4) > FCLMC 12, LARP 60 (Carter LaFee (107), Jaxson Johnson (139), Quintin Betthauser (145), Carter Cady (152), Nolan Happel (160), Zach Plank (189), Chase Drazkowski (215), and Jaden Perez (285) won by fall for the S-Eagles. LARP took 127 (Owen Lange) and 133 (Carter Bronk) by forfeit. FCLMC won 114 (August Pfeffer) and 172 (Kane Larson) by forfeit); GMLOS 25, LARP 48 (C. LaFee (107), Christian Zibrowski (121), O.
