Wrestling: LARP Posts Seven-Win Week Including Topping #3 K-W

LARP wrestling continued their strong season with seven dual wins in eight tries including sweeping a triangular and a quadrangular at home. In Lewiston on a Tuesday, LARP took care of #3 in A Kenyon-Wanamingo 43-21 and Winona High 69-6. The win over the Knights was the Screamin’ Eagles’ second victory over a ranked team this year (#2 Chatfield). K-W took three of the first four weights to lead 15-3 but won just twice more. Two big LARP wins were Michael Alexander (133) topping #3 at 121 Ryan LaCanne by 15-5 major and Owen Lange (#5 at 139) beating #2 at 127 Bryan Jacobson by 6-0 decision. Carter Bronk (145), Braydon Peterson (160), Trygg Hegland (215), and #6 Chace Drazkowski (285) won by fall for LARP, Jaxon Johnson (152) by forfeit. Easton Johnson (114) and #6 Zach Plank (189 > 5-3) added 3-1 and 5-3 decision wins. The Knights were the 1A runner-up last year. Versus the WinHawks, the S-Eagles took 107 (Carter LaFee), 114 (E-Johnson), 121 (Trevin Sublett), 127 (Christian Zibrowski), 133 (Alexander), 152 (J-Johnson), and 189 (Plank) by forfeit. Lange (139), Bronk (145), and Colten Jenkins (172) won by fall. Drazkowski (215) won by 17-1 tech fall, Peterson (160) by 24-16 major. Two days later, LARP hosted a quadrangular with Dover-Eyota, GMLOS, and Rochester-Century. They beat D-E 37-24, winning seven of the first eight weights for a 31-6 start. LaFee (107), Zibrowski (127), and Plank (189) won by fall, Lange (139) by forfeit. Alexander (133) secured an 18-5 major, E-Johnson (114 > 10-5), Bronk (145 > 13-8), and J-Johnson (152 > 13-10 in overtime) decision wins. GMLOS fell 53-19. LaFee (107), Zibrowski (127), Alexander (133), Jenkins (172), Plank (189), and Drazkowski (285) won by fall, Lange (139) by forfeit, J-Johnson (152) by medical forfeit. E-Johnson (114) took a 23-7 tech fall. For GMLOS, Chase Van Hill (121) and Calum Sween (160) won by fall, Drake Payne (215) by 15-4 major, and Cael Smith (145) by 18-14 decision. Versus the Panthers, LARP won 44-21. Zibrowski (127), Alexander (133), Peterson (160), Jenkins (172), and Plank (189) won by fall, Lange (139) by forfeit. J-Johnson (152) won a 18-3 tech fall, E-Johnson (114) by 10-5 decision. GMLOS lost to Century 52-16 with Parker Armagost (127) and Ayden Stier (189) winning by fall, Chase Van Hill (121) by 15-1 major. The Bulldogs lost to D-E 47-27 with Armagost (127), Stier (189), and Payne (215) winning by fall, Cael Smith (139) by forfeit, and Van Hill (121) by 5-4 decision. LARP then went 2-1 on the Westfield duals, beating the Razorbacks 39-35 and Albert Lea 41-2l, losing a tight one to Owatonna 38-35 in the first place dual. Versus Westfield, LARP trailed 35-18 heading to 172 only for Jenkins (fall), Plank (forfeit), Hegland (12-8 decision) and Drazkowski (fall) to win out, the latter’s pin securing the dual. Zibrowski (127), Lange (139), and J-Johnson (152) also had pins. Versus Albert Lea, Lange (139), Peterson (160), and Plank (189) won by fall. LaFee (107) and J-Johnson (152) each secured 18-0 tech falls, Jaden Perez (285) an 19-8 major. Winning decision were E-Johnson (114 > 9-3), Alexander (133 > 10-7), and Drazkowski (215 > 7-4). Versus, the Huskies, LARP fell behind 18-0 and never led. They got as close as 24-23 after 152 but dropped 160, 172, and 215, the latter making Owatonna’s lead 38-29. Zibrowski (127), Lange (139), Bronk (145), and Plank (189) won by fall, Drazkowski (285) by forfeit, and J-Johnson (152) by 21-5 tech fall. The big week ran Darrin Hegland’s groups’ records to 5-1 in the TRC, 16-3 overall. Lange, J-Johnson, and Plank each went 8-0 for the week. Lange (139), Plank (189), and Drazkowski (#85) are all ranked #6 and LARP is “Lean and Mean” in Class A.

Wrestling: #2 Gophers Sweep Home Tri with Cal/Hou and PEM

Ranked #2 in state in Class A, Chatfield wrestling whipped through TRC foes Caledonia/Houston 49-17 and PEM 56-6 at a home triangular. Versus the Warriors, Chatfield lost just once up through 160 pounds. Jameson Priebe (121), Logan Pearson (127), Kaisen Johnson (133), and Nolan Happel (160) won by fall, Hunter Polikowsky (145) by forfeit, and Will Boelter (215) by injury default for six-point wins. Joey Cady (107) and Layne Root (139) won 20-2 and 20-3 tech falls, Cody Ramaker (152) a 9-3 decision. Winning for Cal/Hou were Rae’Shaun Smith (285) by fall and Anthony Von Arx (189) by 17-2 tech fall. Aiden Burns (114) and Will Allen (172) wrestled out 7-2 and 7-1 decisions. The Gophers surrendered just two weights to PEM (152, 172), both by decision. Gunner Polikowsky (114), Johnson (133), D’Andre Williams (189), and W-Boelter won by fall, H-Polikowsky (145) by forfeit, Happel (160) by injury default for six-point wins. Cady (107) and Pearson (127) won by 18-3 and 20-3 tech falls, Priebe (121) by 13-4 major. Root (139) and Jackson Bernard (215) wrestled out 10-7 and 7-4 decisions. Matt Mauseth’s group is 4-1 in the TRC, 8-3 overall. Cady (#1 at 107), G-Polikowsky (#6 at 114), Priebe (#2 at 121), Pearson (#3 at 127), Johnson (#4 at 133), Root (#10 at 139), H-Polikowsky (#6 at 145), and W-Boelter (#6 at 215) are in the January 6 Guillotine rankings. The Warriors also fell to PEM 55-18. Burns (114), Allen (172), and Von Arx (189) had pins. Cal/Hou is 2-2 in the TRC, 5-16 overall. Cooper Allen (#5 at 215) is ranked (though W-Allen should be). 

Wrestling: Wolves Sweep Home Tri 

FCLMC wrestling got a pair of wins in a home triangular with La Crescent/Hokah and Lake City. The match with the Tigers was the good one. The Wolves rallied from a 30-9 deficit after 145. James Cullen’s pin at 285 clinched FCLMC the win by 38-36 score. Quinci Kaase (172) and Will Boettcher (215) also had pins while Kane Larson (189) won by forfeit. Said foursome thus scored the Wolves victories across the final four weights. Quentin Daniels (107) and Grant Daniels (152) won by 16-1 and 19-4 tech falls, Beckett Hovland (121) by 14-0 major. Four of FCLMC’s six losses were by forfeit. Blaise Sass’ group downed the Lancers 46-25. FCLMC trailed 25-24 after 160 before again taking the final four weights. Q-Daniels (114), Hovland (127), August Pfeffer (139), Larson (189), Boettcher (215), and Cullen (285) had pins, Nolan Eide (145) won by forfeit, and Kaase (172) by 15-7 major decision. The Wolves are 3-1 in the TRC, 8-4 overall. Larson, #1 in Class A at 189, is their sole ranked guy.

TRC and Non-Conference Wrestling (1/13 – 1/17)

Decorah 52, Caledonia/Houston 12 (Aaren Kulas 139) won by fall, Aiden Burns (121) and Will Allen by 8-3 and 4-0 decisions for the Warriors. The Vikings are ranked in Class AA in multiple Iowa polls) 

Pine Island Girls Tourney (Chatfield, FCLMC, and GMLOS competed. FCLMC’s Teagann Stoen (90 > won four falls) took first. Chatfield’s Brynn Horsman (124 > won two falls, won 13-3 major, lost fall) took second and Elle Eickhoff (142 > won fall, lost 17-1 tech fall, won two falls) took third. GMLOS’ Kloe Meyer (235 > won two falls, lost 15-10 decision) took second. Chatfield’s Celie Eisenman (124B1 > won 3-1 decision, won fall, won 15-0 tech fall) also took first in the B-division) 

Lake Mills Duals > GMLOS 12, Lake Mills 66 (Cael Smith (138) and Drake Payne (215) had fall for the Bulldogs); GMLOS 24, North Butler-Clarksville 54 (Chase Van Hill (120), Parker Armagost (126), C. Smith (144), and D. Payne (215) had pins for GMLOS); South Winn 46, GMLOS 33 (The Bulldogs led 21-8 after 138, but won just one more match. P. Armagost (126), Logan Gregerson (132), C. Smith (138), Calum Sween (165), and D. Payne (215) won by fall, C. Van Hill (120) by 10-6 decision. GMLOS is 1-4 in the TRC, 5-12 overall)
