Wrestling: Warriors Top LARP, Sweep WK Triangular

Wrestling in the TRC authored up another surprise. The first shock was LARP beating #2 Chatfield 39-36 to start the year. At W-K triangular, Caledonia/Houston (3-13) topped LARP (2-0, 8-1) by 36-36 score on criteria. The dual came down to the last weight between ranked wrestlers. Cal/Hou started with pins by Kiptyn Meiners (107), Jace Conway (113), and Aiden Burns (121) for an 18-0 lead. LARP then ripped four pins from Christian Zibrowski (127), Michael Alexander (133), #5 Owen Lange (139), and Carter Bronk (145) for a 24-18 lead. Two decisions were key in the dual. One was Cal’s Karsen Klug topping Brayden Peterson 15-12 in overtime at 152. With LARP taking 160 by fall (Jaxon Johnson) and 189 by forfeit (#6 Zach Plank), it was a key win. Warrior Will Allen (172) had a pin in between. LARP led 36-27 heading to 215, where Cal/Hou’s Anthony Von Arx won by fall. At 285, Warrior Cooper Allen (#5 at 215) beat Chace Drazkowski (#6 at 285) by 5-3 decision. It tied the match 36-36, but Cal/Hou won seven of 13 bouts to get the win. Cal/Hou also topped W-K 54-21. Meiners (107), Conway (114), Burns (121), Dawson Geiwitz (160), W-Allen (172), C-Allen (215), and VonArx (285) won by forfeit. Klug (152) won by fall. W-K won three of the four wrestled matches. The Warriors are 2-0 in the TRC, 5-13 overall. LARP beat W-K 75-0! Carter LaFee (107), Easton Johnson (114), Trevin Sublett (121), Colten Jenkins (172), Plank (189), Trygg Hegland (215), and Drazkowski (285) won by forfeit. Alexander (133), Lange (139), Bronk (145), and J-Johnson (160) won by fall. C-Zibrowski won a 19-4 tech fall, Peterson (152) a 12-0 major decision. LARP is 3-1 in the TRC, 9-2 overall. 

Three Rivers Conference Wrestling (1/8 & 1/9)

GMLOS Triangular > GMLOS 29, St. Charles 52 (Parker Armagost (133), Calum Sween (160), and Drake Payne (215) had pins for the Bulldogs, Cael Smith (139) won a 17-0 tech fall, Ayden Stier (189) and Wyatt Krull (285) 10-4 and 5-0 decisions); St. Charles 0, #2 in A Chatfield 69 (The Gophers got pins from Joey Cady (107), Jameson Priebe (121), Kaisen Johnson (133), Hunter Polikowsky (145), Cody Ramaker (152), Andrew Boelter (189), Jackson Bernard (215), and Will Boelter (285). Nolan Happel (160) won by forfeit, Layne Root (139) by 17-1 tech fall, Gunner Polikowksy (114) by 24-11 major, Logan Pearson (127) and Brenden Kobs (172) by 5-2 and 7-2 decisions); #2 in A Chatfield 59, GMLOS 12 (Chatfield got pins from G. Polikowsky (114), J. Priebe (121), L. Pearson (127), C. Ramaker (145), H. Polikowsky (152), and J. Bernard (285). J. Cady (107) won by forfeit. N. Happel (160) and B. Kobs (172) each won 17-2 tech falls. L. Root (139) won a 14-4 major, K. Johnson (133) a 16-11 decision over P. Armagost. GMLOS got pins from A. Stier (189) and D. Payne (215). GMLOS is 1-3 in the TRC, 5-7 overall)

PEM Triangular > PEM 51, FCLMC 21 (FCLMC forfeited 107, 114, 121, and 139 while taking 172 (Quinci Kasse) by forfeit. Ashton Newman (160) and Kane Larson (189) won by fall, Jackson Hearon (285) by 4-0 decision); La Crescent/Hokah 21, FCLMC 45 (FCLMC yielded the match’s only forfeit at 139. Wolves Ben Norby (127), August Pfeffer (133), Q. Kaase (172), K. Larson (189), and J. Hearon (285) won by fall, Quentin Daniels (107) by 17-2 tech fall, Turner Sprenger (121) by 18-5 major, Nolan Eide (145) and Will Boettcher (215) by 5-4 and 9-6 decisions. FCLMC is 3-1 in the TRC, 6-4 overall) 

Non-Conference Wrestling (1/9 & 1/10) 

Cannon Falls Girls Tourney (LARP girls (129) took first over nearest foe Rosemount (115.5) of 11 total teams. Payson Speltz (106 > won three falls) and Bobbie Wnuk (170 > three falls) took first in the A division. Ten weights were wrested.) 

Stillwater Quad (Boys) > #2 in A Chatfield 19, #2 in AAA Stillwater 42 (Chatfield led 14-13 after 145 but won just one match from 152 thru 285. Jameson Priebe (121) had a fall, Logan Pearson (127) and Nolan Happel (172) 18-2 and 16-0 tech falls, Hunter Polikowsky (145) a 6-0 decision); #2 Chatfield 46, Cambridge-Isanti 24 (Chatfield built a 46-4 lead after 160. Joey Cady (107), L. Pearson (127), Kaisen Johnson (133), Cody Ramaker (145), H. Polikowsky (152), and N. Happel (160) had pins, J. Priebe (121) and Layne Root (139) 16-0 and 19-0 tech falls.); #2 Chatfield 62, Roseville 6 (Chatfield took 107 (J. Cady), 127 (L. Pearson), 133 (K. Johnson), 152 (C. Ramaker) won by forfeit. Gunner Polikowksy (114), J. Priebe (121), and Andrew Boelter (215) won by fall, L. Root (133) and N. Happel by 16-0 and 17-1 tech falls, Brenden Kobs (172) a 12-2 major, H. Polikowsky (145) and Eli Manahan (189) by 15-12 and 12-9 decisions.); (Girls) Stillwater 29, Chatfield 39 (Chatfield won seven of 10 wrestled matches. They forfeited 170 and 190. Melody Ward (100), Emily Bova (106), Maizee Priebe (112), Brynn Horsman (124), Elle Eickhoff (142), and Eve Goetzginer (155) won by fall, Kinley Manahan (130) by 12-8 decision) 

Stewartville “Darrel Jaeger” Boys and Girls Tourney (GMLOS’ boys (162) took third (of 10) behind Maple River/USC (223.5) and LeSueur-Henderson (199.5). Lincoln Lunning (114 > won fall, lost fall), Parker Armagost (127 > won two falls, lost fall), Cael Smith (139 > won 12-0 major, lost 20-2 tech fall), and Ayden Stier (189 > won fall, won 16-9 decision, lost 17-1 tech fall) took second. Chase Van Hill (121 > won 10-9 decision, lost fall, won fall, won 4-3 decision) and Drake Payne (215 > won fall, lost fall, won two falls) took third. GMLOS’ girls (181.5) took third (of 7) behind Byron (196) and Mayo (195.5). Chloe Hubbard (106 > won three falls, 16-1 tech fall) and Zoe Steinkamp (130 > won 2-0 decision, won fall) took first. Emry Wallace (136 > won two falls, lost fall) and Kloe Meyer (235 > won fall, lost fall) took second. Mariah Severson (142 > lost fall, won two falls) took third.)

St. Charles Girls Tourney (Pine Island (128.5) topped Dover-Eyota (128) for first with LARP (60.5) taking seventh and FCLMC (58.5) eighth of nine teams. In the gold division, LARP’s Bobbie Wnuk (170 > won fall, won 32-15 tech fall) took first, Margaret Young (170 > lost 32-15 tech fall, won fall) took second (of just three), and Payson Speltz (106 > won two falls, lost fall, lost 7-6 decision) took third. For FCLMC, Gwen Lieb (118 > won 15-0 tech fall, lost 2-1 decision, won medical forfeit, won fall) and Amelia Ringer (130 > lost fall, won two falls) each took third.) 

Eden Prairie Girls Tourney (Chatfield (89) took fourth of 31 teams behind Forest Lake (111), St. Michael-Albertville (102), and Apple Valley (96.5). In the A-division, Emily Bova (106 > won two falls, lost 5-2 decision) took second. Taking third were Bryn Goetzinger (118 > won 10-1 major, lost fall, won 3-0 decision), Brynn Horsman (124 > won two falls, lost fall, won 10-0 major), and Eve Goetzinger (155 > won 7-2 decision, lost 17-6 major, won fall).

PEM Tourney (LARP (201) took second behind PEM (206.5). FCLMC (96) took fifth of nine total teams. For LARP, Christian Zibrowski (127 > won three falls, won medical forfeit, won 20-4 tech fall), Michael Alexander (133 > won 21-4, 19-4, and 18-3 tech falls, won two falls), Owen Lange (139 > won 20-3 tech fall, won 13-2 major, won 21-5 and 20-3 tech falls), and Chace Drazkowski (285 > won two falls, won 17-2 tech fall, won fall) took first, Easton Johnson (114 > won three falls, lost fall) and Zach Plank (189 > won three falls, lost 17-2 tech fall) second, Carter LaFee (107 > lost 7-0 decision, lost 16-1 tech fall, won 6-0 decision) took third (of four). For FCLMC, Kane Larson (189 > won fall, won 17-2, 20-5, and 17-2 tech falls) took first, Quinci Kaase (172 > lost fall, won 21-5 tech fall, lost fall, won 12-8 decision) took third.)
