Every morning at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in Lanesboro, children in the Semcac Head Start partnership classroom step into a learning experience like no other. As sunlight filters through the trees and leaves crunch beneath small boots, preschoolers ages three to five begin their day connected to the natural world around them. This partnership blends Semcac Head Start’s long‑standing commitment to empowering families with Eagle Bluff’s unique outdoor learning environment. Head Start provides experienced, highly-qualified teachers and Eagle Bluff provides qualified early childhood nature educators along with all the gear children need to be comfortable to explore outdoors and the campus which includes hundreds of acres of prairie, forests, ponds, river, as well as indoor experiences like rock climbing and wildlife programs. In celebration of Week of the Young Child 2026, a nationwide recognition of early learning, young children, their teachers, and families, Semcac Head Start and Eagle Bluff proudly highlight the powerful impact this collaboration has on our youngest learners. This special week reaffirms our community’s belief that every child deserves opportunities to explore, grow, and thrive – and at Eagle Bluff, that promise comes to life every day.
The Eagle Bluff classroom, operating 7.5 hours per day Monday through Thursday, integrates indoor learning with vibrant outdoor exploration that strengthens communication, problem‑solving, curiosity, and confidence. With educators as guides, children walk wooded trails, discover small creatures and natural materials, splash through puddles, and observe seasonal changes firsthand. Families often describe the Eagle Bluff experience as transformative – an opportunity for young children to develop independence and resilience in an environment that honors exploration and wonder. As a scholarship‑based program designed for qualifying families, Semcac Head Start ensures this high‑quality, nature‑rich preschool experience is accessible to children who will benefit most. The partnership reflects deeply rooted community values: supporting families, embracing outdoor learning, and preparing the next generation through caring relationships and strong early educational foundations.
Semcac Head Start is currently enrolling children ages three to five for the Eagle Bluff partnership classroom and invites families across Fillmore County and surrounding communities to apply. Head Start team members collaborate with parents and local school districts to provide individualized learning support, community connections, and comprehensive services such as nutrition, health, dental, medical, and behavioral support.
