These have been difficult times for all of our families in Lanesboro. While our school systems are all on hold during the events surrounding the pandemic, we do continue to offer child care services for the children of our emergency services personnel. We are forever thankful for the important role these families play in helping to keep our communities safe. We are also thankful for all of our employees and look forward to the time when the Lanesboro Child Care Center is once again filled with children and staff.
Our focus, as always, is on the health and well-being of our students, families, employees, and communities that we serve. This has meant a halt to the normal way of doing things for nearly every component of our school system, including our early learning services. As an example of this, our Preschool staff have moved their learning opportunities to a distance model. Enrolled families will be receiving information to help guide their child’s educational experience for the time we are apart.
We know the current situation has caused disruptions in every facet of people’s lives and we, like you, can’t wait for the return to normalcy. When that happens Lanesboro Schools will once again be ready to offer a full assortment of early learning opportunities for your child. We are fortunate to have a phenomenal staff that cares deeply about children and it shows in everything that they do.
The Lanesboro Child Care Center has been in operation for over 30 years and next fall we will be moving into a new facility custom made for our youngest Burros. With capacity for more than 20 infants, 30 toddlers, and 40 school-age children, the new facility will allow us to serve even more families than we do currently. We know child care needs are one of the most important reasons for families to choose the communities they want to call home and we plan to fully meet those needs.
Along with our daytime child care the LCCC also offers before and after school care for our elementary aged children. With the addition of an indoor play area and a second gymnasium there will be more than enough space for everyone, even on the coldest of Minnesota days. Our goal has been and will remain to be family centered. Incorporating child care into our school system has been a staple of the community for years and is more important now than ever before.
In addition to the Lanesboro Child Care Center, Lanesboro Schools also offers Early Childhood Family Education classes for children and parents to learn together. These classes occur during the school year, including special events within the community each month – often in collaboration with the Lanesboro Public Library, Lanesboro Arts and/or various Downtown Business Celebrations. Teaching staff provides programming that can meet the needs of both children and their parents in each session, with plenty of opportunities for play and conversation. Lanesboro ECFE also organizes several family events on Saturdays seasonally during the school year. Don’t forget to check the Lanesboro School marquee for class/event updates, explore our Lanesboro ECFE Facebook Page, or call Lanesboro Public Schools with questions.
Our Preschool program may be a distance model currently, however, when in session it is second to none. Our staff, led by Lena Bergo, brings a level of education, experience, and pride that will allow your child to grow not only academically, but social-emotionally as well. Our 3/4-year-old preschool classes run two days each week and our 4/5-year-old classes run three days a week. Utilizing research-based curriculum, compassion, and experience, classes help prepare children for their next steps. From infant child care through 5-year-old preschool, children have the opportunity to be a part of Lanesboro Schools throughout their earliest learning.
We do not yet know what the summer months will bring for our recreation opportunities this year, however, when we are in session it is a popular option for our families. From softball to swimming, summer rec offers all we can to help keep kids busy and having fun. If you have any questions regarding any of our programs: ECFE, Child Care, Preschool, or Summer Recreation, please contact Lanesboro Schools at (507) 467-2229 or email the office at lanesboroschool@gmail.com. We are here to serve and we look forward to the time when children are once again filling our rooms and hallways with smiles and laughter.
