As the season moves along, they’ll have bigger fish to fry. They are one of four unbeaten teams in the Three Rivers Conference. Caledonia boys basketball, ranked #3 in AA, heads to the New Year unblemished.
Brad King’s guys do so after winning a pair of games at the Lewiston Auto WSU Holiday Classic. They first beat Prairie du Chien 61-44. Four Warriors got to double-figure: Chris Pieper (15 pts), Thane Meiners (13 pts), Eli King (12 pts), and Jackson Koepke (10 pts). Nickolas McCallick (16 pts) led PDC. Caledonia then took on Waseca in a re-match of last year’s Class AA state title game, won by the Blue Jays 51-49. Waseca isn’t the same, down three guys playing at the next level, 6’9” center Andrew Morgan (North Dakota State), 6’5” forward Kyreese Willingham (MSU-Mankato), and 6’0” guard Ryan Dufault (St. Thomas). Resultantly, it was all Warriors in a 77-49 win. King (18 pts), Meiners (12 pts), Koepke (11 pts), and Ben Stemper (11 pts) got to double figures. Pieper chipped in 8 points. Nine Warriors scored and all had at least four points. Elijah Breck (14 pts) led the Blue Jays. Caledonia has won all of its games by at least nine points. They’ve been above 70 points in five of seven games. LC/H (3-0, 6-0) and the Warriors (2-0, 7-0) sit atop the TRC-East with R-P (1-1, 5-2) in third place. LCH beat R-P 47-45 in OT. TRC-West leaders Lewiston-Altura (3-0, 8-0) and PEM (2-0, 6-0) are also yet to lose. By QRF, the Warriors are the top team in Section 1AA ahead of Lake City (2-0, 5-2), with LC/H, L-A, and PEM right behind.
