The Caledonia/Spring Grove gymnasts closed their season with an eighth place finish in the nine-team Section 1A Tournament hosted by ninth place Kasson-Mantorville/Triton on March 20. Cal/SG (2-9 duals) improved by one place from last year’s section tournament while outscoring K-M/T for the third time this season. Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa had the top two individual scorers and advances to state as the section champion.
The Warriors, as usual, had their best team score on vault (32.350), but the highest finish was a sixth place on the balance beam (29.400).
“Our competitors on beam were very confident and steady up there,” said coach Savana Kettner. “We had very minimal falls at this meet, and the girls really performed well.”
Among 42 gymnasts, freshman Braelyn Lange placed 19th in all-around (30.100) with seventh grader Macy Kraus 20th (29.775) also in the top half of the field. Junior Brianna Johnson was 23rd (28.425) and freshman Sabrina Lisota 26th (26.500). Also competing were sophomore Kandis Privet and freshmen Sophie Burns and Payton Zehnder, while freshman Camryn Klug was an alternate.
The best individual scores were all on vault with Kraus’ 8.325, Lange’s 8.200 and Johnson’s 8.000.
“We are very proud of how this team performed,” added Kettner. “Overall, we are very happy with how the season progressed, and we are already looking forward to next year.”
With no seniors (and only two juniors and two sophomores), all 18 young Warriors retain eligibility for 2022.
