Volleyball Lions grab win out west over Wolverines

The Spring Grove girls served an extraordinary 99% in a Sept. 15 runaway road win at Glenville-Emmons, 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-13). The Lions put 73 of 74 serves in play with nine aces. Kenadee Gerard served eight times with three aces. Nine different Lions served without error. With a 14th straight win in the series with the Wolverines, Spring Grove improved to 6-0 (6-0 SEC) while the Wolverines slipped to 3-7 (2-4 SEC).

At the net, the Lions amassed a 43-to-15 scoring advantage with 38 kills and 5 ace blocks. Gerard put away 11 kills (a strong 32% efficiency) and Addyson McHugh 10 kills (25% efficiency) while Kendal VanMinsel had 27 set assists.

On defense, McHugh contributed to 4 blocks (2 solo, 2 assists) and was credited with 10 digs. Premier passer on offense, Maggie Lile led the defense with 16 digs. Sydney Holland had 9 digs and Gerard 6.

G-E broke even at the service line with 4 aces and 4 errors, but lost ground near the net with 13 kills and 20 hitting errors. After the Lions scored first in all three sets, including the first three points of the first set and the first eight points of the second set. The home team led only once at 2-1 in set three before Spring Grove scored the next five points.

The Lion B-team is also unbeaten after six matches with a 2-0 win over G-E (25-12, 25-8).
