Chatfield volleyball’s week was highlighted by another huge milestone for their esteemed five-year senior, plus a five-set comeback win. Hosting Rushford-Peterson, the Trojans put the Gophers in a hole by taking sets one and two each 25-23. Game one had ten ties, the last at 22-22 before Jenny Lee’s group scored three of the last four points. Behind five Cora Bicknese kills (she had a huge night), Chatfield jumped out 8-2 in game two and later led 16-11. But a 6-0 run put R-P up 17-16. Addison Drinkall served five of the points. With it 19-19, R-P spurted 5-2 to lead 24-21. Chatfield staved off a couple set points but Ariana Bettinger’s fifth kill of the game gave R-P the set. In set three, Gopher Brynn Tweten served three straight aces and four points to put Chatfield up 13-10. Bicknese scored with her 1,000th career kill to make it 18-12. Chatfield took the set 25-20. R-P jumped out 5-1 in game four but Chatfield then went 7-3 to tie the game 8-8. Tweten again had the key serving run, scoring four straight points to put the Gophers up 10-8. A two ace Makynli Ostby service session later made it 18-13, as Chatfield took the game 25-18 and tied the match 2-2. They then rolled early in game four, getting five Bicknese kills in a 10-1 start. R-P battled back to make it more respectable but Chatfield took the game 15-10, the match in reverse-sweep style 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-10). The senior Bicknese (27 kills, 25 digs) had a huge match, including surpassing 1,000 career kills. She just surpassed 2,000 career digs days earlier. Brynn Tweten (32 assists, 9 digs, 17-19 serving, 6 aces) also had a huge match. Andie Ruskell (16 digs), Maizee Priebe (14 digs), Ashlyn Schaitel (10 kills), Sophia Goldsmith (8 kills), Adelia Goldsmith (20 assists, 9 digs), Addison Johnsrud (7 kills, 6 digs), Ostby (6 kills, 4 aces), and Ali Eickhoff (6 kills) made it a team effort. The Trojans were led by their defense from Addison Drinkall (24 digs), Alannah Skalet (18 digs, 20-20 serving, 4 aces), Kenley Snyder (15 digs), and Brielle Schneider (10 kills, 6 assists, 18 digs). Setter Grace Ekern had 6 kills, 28 assists, and 9 digs. Sydney Rye (7 kills) and Bettinger (6 kills) helped on offense. Chatfield out-killed R-P 66 to 39. Chatfield had 94 digs, R-P 91. Chatfield is 5-4 in the TRC, 13-14 overall. R-P is 3-6 in the TRC, 12-14 overall.
