Lanesboro volleyball started the year with two five-set match losses and now their last two non-tourney affairs have been five set match wins. Hosting Southland, the Burros came back from down 2-set-to-1. Each of the first four sets was tight at the end. The Burros held a 23-19 lead in game one and held on for the 25-23 win. Southland held a 24-19 lead in game two. The Burros survived five set points (six total) to tie the match at 24 (and 25), but fell 27-25. Lanesboro led game three 20-17 but gave up an 8-2 run to the finish, as the Rebels went ahead 2-1 via a 25-22 final. The Burros then built a 24-19 lead in game four. Southland staved off five match points to tie the set at 24, only for Courtney Graves’ group to secure the 26-24 win. The Burros then led start to finish in taking game five 15-10, the match 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10). Emma Ruen (13 kills, 34 assists, 20 digs, 4 aces) had a triple-double-plus to lead the way. Cora Mayer (13 kills, 4 total blocks), Jentrey Schreiber (15 kills, 26 digs), Kaylee Gilbertson (7 kills, 23 digs, 3 aces), and Prailey Willford (23 digs) also had big matches. Lanesboro is 4-4 in the SEC, 8-5 overall. SEC-West contending Southland finished the week at 6-3 in the SEC, 9-5 overall.
