Mabel Canton Girls Volleyball
Ranked #1 in Class A to start the season, after back-to-back state appearances, Mabel-Canton volleyball began their 2024 campaign by going 7-0 at the Floodwood Tourney to take first place. They posted a 14-0 set record at the event. Photo submitted

Floodwood Tourney (Mabel-Canton beat Cherry 2-0 (25-16, 25-7), East Central 2-0 (25-16, 25-9), Northome/Kelliher 2-0 (25-8, 25-11), Floodwood 2-0 (25-13, 25-10), Duluth-Denfield 2-0 (25-13, 25-15), and Lake of the Woods 2-0 (25-13, 25-14) in pool play, then and Floodwood again 2-0 (25-15, 25-20) in the title match to win the tourney. Cougar tourney leaders: Sahara Morken 16 kills, 166 assists, 41 digs, 66-70 serving, 15 aces; Kinley Soiney 49 kills, 24 digs; Saijal Slafter 43 kills, 13 aces; Kailey Ingvalson 32 kills, 26 digs; Tylar Wenthold 24 kills; Lydia Vatland 30 digs, 64-67 serving, 18 aces. Cougars > 0-0, 7-0) 

Pine Island Tourney (GM beat PEM 2-0 (25-18, 25-18) and Lake City 2-0 (25-13, 25-16) while losing to Rochester-Lourdes 0-2 (23-25, 11-25) in pool play. The Larks then fell to Pine Island 0-2 (24-26, 10-25) in the championship match. Lark tourney leaders: Hallie Hendrickson 47 assists, 14 digs; Lauren Queensland 11 kills, 27 digs; Haylie Paul 21 kills; Cheyenne Bakken 35 digs; Kendall Jack 9 kills, 22 digs. Larks > 0-0, 2-2)
