The volleyball matchup of #1 in Class A Fillmore Central (2-0 TRC, 7-1 overall) and #7 in Class AA Caledonia (2-1 TRC, 8-2 overall) was absolutely marquee. The teams in recent memory nearly always compete at the top of the conference (and their respective sections). For two sets, the Warriors looked primed to make the TRC race interesting. But FC battled back to the reverse sweep victory. Each of the first two games was highly competitive. FC jumped out 5-0 in game one behind Lauren Dahly’s serving. But the Warriors then scored 10 of 15 points to tie the match at 10. They then led until FC tied things at 21. With it 23-23, a Falcon hitting error and a Paizley Lange ace gave Dan Reinhart’s group the set, 25-23. Set two had eight ties, the last at 16-16. Late in the match, Warrior explosive sophomore OH Ashlyn Reinhart scored with five kills. Caledonia built a 24-19 lead and prevailed 25-22 to for the 2-0 lead. But from there, the Falcons rarely trailed. They led sets three and four 12-6 out of the gate, and from start to finish. FC claimed game three 25-16. In game four, the Warriors rallied from down 18-12 to get as close as 19-17. But Falcon Norah Nagel then served three points to make the score 23-17. FC took the game 25-19. In the decisive game five, Caledonia held its only leads of the final three sets, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3. With it tied 5-5, FC scored six in a row. Nagel started with a side-out inducing kill, then served five points. Dahly had key back-to-back middle kills in the span to make it 8-5. She had four kills in the set. The Falcons ended scoring 10 of 13 points. They took the final game 15-8, the match 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-8). FC has four very good hitters, one at every position; left side, middle, and right side. Dahly (12 kills on team-high .308 hitting, 27-28 serving, team-high 5 aces, 4 total blocks), Madi Zwart (14 kills), Nagel (10 kills, 11 digs, 6 aces), and Hannah Vaalemoen (10 kills, 18 assists, 9 digs, 4 total blocks), who was one dig away from a triple-double, combined for 46 of FC’s 47 kills. Josie Corson had a team-high 26 digs (19-19 serving). Braelynn Dierkes (20 assists, 7 digs) and Ava Larson (8 digs) helped. Outside hitters Reinhart (16 kills, 9 digs, 18-20 serving, 3 aces) and Elsa Blum (12 kills, 11 digs) led the Warriors on offense. Adrienne Lange (9 kills) and Paizley Lange (6 kills, team-high 20 digs) helped. Avery Augedahl (3 kills, 24 assists, 12 digs), playing in her first match after a sprained ankle, and Lily Augedahl (14 assists) split the setting. Lauren Goetzinger added 15 digs. FC had 14 service aces to the Warriors 7. The Falcons (3-0, 8-1) are in first place in the TRC ahead of D-E (3-1, 12-3), L-A (3-1, 6-4), and R-P (2-1, 5-5) with the Warriors (2-2, 8-3), Chatfield (2-2, 5-5), and Cotter/HL (2-2, 5-5) all having two losses. FC has beaten Dover-Eyota.
