Vernon Wayne Jahn, age 93, of Bloomington, Minn., died peacefully at Fairview Southdale Hospital on March 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Vernon was born in Spring Valley, Minn., to parents Carl and Alma (Jeche) Jahn. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1948 and worked at First National Bank in Rochester until he joined the Navy in December 1950. During the Korean War, he was stationed aboard the USS Twining as a Yeoman and was honorably discharged in October 1954.
After his years of service, Vernon graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Luther College and a Mastersof Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. He enjoyed a long career at B. Dalton Booksellers and Barnes & Noble. He retired in August 1991.
In 1965, Vernon married the love of his life, Sharon, daughter of Harvey and Maxine (Howard) Ronken of Spring Valley, Minn. Together they raised two children.
He is survived by wife Sharon, his children William (Barbara) Jahn of Duluth, Minn., and Carolyn (Michael) Bradley of Helotes, Tex.; and five grandchildren: Jessica, Brandon and Eric Jahn and Samantha and Mikayla Bradley. He is also survived by his brother James (Jean) Jahn of Wabasha, Minn., and many nephews and nieces.
His love of Big Band music and for playing Cribbage could not be overstated. He looked forward to his yearly vacations to Cross Lake with extended family members. Most of all, Vernon loved his family deeply and cherished moments with all of them.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Alma Jahn, his brother Carl Jahn and his sister Velma Wayne.
He will be buried with military honors at Spring Valley Cemetery in Spring Valley, Minn., on April 15, 2024, at 1 p.m. Following the interment, friends and family are invited to the Isle of Dreams Bar in Spring Valley for a luncheon.
