Thomas Mitchell obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Thomas “Tom” Mitchell, 67, of Lanesboro, went home to be reunited with his first love on Friday, September 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and life long friends after his battle with cancer. 

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Tom was born July 1, 1958, in Rochester, Minn., to Richard and Ella (Dobberstein) Mitchell. He graduated from Byron High School in 1976. He then went on to marry his best friend Dawn (Olmstead) on October 20, 1982. They resided in Kasson until they moved to Lanesboro in 1990. Tom milked dairy cows for 30 years then moved on to working off the farm after his wife passed in 2012. Tom then met Jill (Marten) of Wabasha in 2016 and married July 5, 2025. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and building a cabin all by hand.

Tom is survived by his wife Jill, two daughters, Jennifer of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Jill (Marc) of Long Prairie, Minn.; a son, Joshua of Lanesboro; along with his wife’s children Miranda and Ken, eight grandchildren: Coltin, Taylor, Aidan, Miley, Zoe, Zeke, Kyleigh and Hendryx; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Madeline; two sisters, Gail Mitchell of Kasson, and Kristine (Gerald) Keckhafer of Rochester; one brother, Karl Mitchell of Kasson; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Tom was proceeded in death by his wife Dawn, his parents Richard and Ella, his brother Allen, along with many other family members that he is now reunited with.

Keeping with Tom’s wishes, his body was cremated.

Remember Tom with the good times had.
