FC Football Pitches Shut-Out, Wins Fourth Straight

October 23, 2017 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - High School Football

For a second straight week, an opponent couldn’t put a point up versus Fillmore Central (4-2).  It wasn’t without W-K (3-3) trying hard, at least on one (18-play) first half drive.  The teams combined for three first half red zone trips.  FC twice held from inside the 12.  The intermission score was 0-0.  All the scoring was by FC in the third quarter.  The teal and black’s … [Read more...]

Whipped By Warriors, Falcons Take Second

Fillmore County Journal - High School Volleyball

For one set, FC volleyball (12-0, 16-4) made mincemeat of defending Class A Runner-Up, seventh-ranked Caledonia (11-0, 17-4).  In a battle essentially for the TRC title, the Falcons jumped out 20-10 and prevailed 25-16.  It was the first set.  Long up-front, with the likes of 6’2” sophomore MH Lydia Lange, athletic on the outside with power-hitting senior Madisyn Heaney, and … [Read more...]

Falcons Post TRC Win #10

October 16, 2017 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - High School Volleyball

They’ve probably been eyeing each other for a while now.  They played a key late season TRC match last year.  It is close to sure Fillmore Central and Caledonia will play the biggest TRC match of 2017, the league volleyball title on the line.  FC fought past two more obstacles to stay TRC perfect.  Against a solid St. Charles (5-2, 8-5) team, the Saints took game one, but FC … [Read more...]

Fillmore County Journal - Fillmore County Sports

FC football (3-2, 4-2) forced five turnovers, pulled the rare blocked punt in the end zone, catch in the end zone TD, and pitched a shut-out in beating USC 35-0.  All five Falcon TDs came off turnovers or the blocked punt.  Matt Lutes had three short scoring runs.  It was FC’s third straight win. Connor Ruen authored a pick-six and set up Lanesboro’s second score with a good … [Read more...]

Falcons Clip Knights, Near TRC Showdown

October 9, 2017 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - Volleyball

It has been a couple years since Fillmore Central volleyball was the Three Rivers heavyweight.  In 2013 and 2014, the Falcons won back-to-back undefeated league titles on the way to back-to-back section title games.  After a two year lull of still-good-but-not-the-best, FC is tiptoeing toward (hoping for) the later.  Travis Malley’s Falcons won two more league matches to move … [Read more...]

FC VB Still Best Falcons, 6-0 in TRC

October 2, 2017 by Paul Trende

There was a bit of intrigue to the big FC/W-K volleyball match.  Days earlier, Fillmore Central (10-4) was the #1 seed in W-K’s tourney, but fell in the first round.  Falcons-North (9-1), surprisingly won the event.  Falcons-South (let’s call them the B&B squad) extracted a bit of revenge and posted another very good TRC win.  FC fought off W-K for the 3-1 win (25-23, … [Read more...]
