Fillmore County Journal - Preston, MN

On Saturday night, December 17, 2016, the LFC Cross Country girls got together with the Stewartville Cross Country girls, braved the weather, and met up at the new Hy-Vee in Rochester to ring bells for Salvation Army and sing Christmas carols together. This was a great show of sportsmanship and friendship among the two teams that tied for second place to go to state this … [Read more...]

Repeat LFC Squad Runs at State

November 14, 2016 by Paul Trende

Getting to state is always good. How you fare there can be just an anecdote. A season ago, LFC’s girls, in their first ever state cross country meet, finished ninth. This season, they dropped down a bit, to 11th (of 16). They were a bit faster as a team (1:44:20.7 from the top five, versus 1:44:53.7 a year ago). The Burros two seniors, who’ve put together excellent running … [Read more...]

Tiebreak, LFC Girls Back to State

November 7, 2016 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal Sports

It was dicey for the defending Section 1A girls cross country champs. Third-ranked L/FC came into the Section meet the favorites. Fifth-ranked Stewartville, a team LFC twice beat in the regular season, appeared their biggest adversary. But then they ran the race. In a sport that scores five runners, it came down to a sixth to decide Section 1A’s second state bid. Last year’s … [Read more...]

October 17, 2016 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - Where Fillmore County News Comes First - Bluff Country News

Everyone still ran 5000-meter courses overland. Some just didn’t have to travel cross country to do so, as the meets were closer to home. The week of Monday October 3 saw two county cross country programs host home events two days apart. Chatfield held their annual boys/girls combined score meet at Chosen Valley Golf Course. Rochester Area Home School (205:21.8), behind their … [Read more...]

Take a Break, Take First

October 10, 2016 by Paul Trende

It’s been an interesting year for LFC cross country. Two events have been cancelled or postponed due to flooding. Currently headed by their 4th-ranked girls group, the Burros, after a 16-day break, returned to action where they left off. At the St. Charles Invite, LFC notably downed 6th-ranked Stewartville 34 to 60 for first place. The Burros’ top five girls were all in the top … [Read more...]
