The Spring Grove volleyball girls overwhelmed visiting Houston 3-0 in a home match (25-14, 25-13, 25-8) on Sept. 13. The Lions outscored the Hurricanes at the net 36-15 and 21-0 from the service line. Each team had a similar number of attacks, but Spring Grove was far more successful in converting opportunities into kills.

Spring Grove served 92% with five servers contributing to 21 aces – Maggie Lile 5, Kendal VanMinsel 5, Lydia Solum 5, Sydney Holland 3 and Addyson McHugh 3. At the net, McHugh put away 10 kills and Kenadee Gerard 9. VanMinsel aired up 24 set assists while Lile defended with 9 digs and McHugh 6.

Lion hitting errors made things close early, but Spring Grove separated with an 8-to-1 run for a 17-9 lead in the first set and were in control the rest of the match. The Lions scored the first five points in set two and then used an 8-point run to take a 10-3 lead in set three.

The B-team remained undefeated at 5-0 with a straight set, 2-0 win (25-4, 25-9). The C-team (5-1) also dominated both sets (25-4, 25-7).
