Spring Grove girls complete sweep of Athletics, 73-47

Spring Grove Girls Basketball

The Spring Grove girls struck early with a 20-0 run and went on to complete a season sweep of Lyle/Pacelli, 73-47. Lydia Solum had a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double while three other Lions came close to the feat.  Addyson McHugh was one rebound short with 14 points and 9 boards. Kylie Hammel was also close with 13 points and 8 rebounds as was Brinley Middendorf with 9 points and 8 boards. Emerson Ingvalson led Lion scoring with a career-high 18 points while the Athletics’ Kirsten Koopal took game honors with 20 points.

It was a fast-paced contest with the teams combining for 130 official shot attempts from the field (shots when not fouled) and 46 free throws. Most impressive for the Lions was their season-best assist-to-turnover ratio with 18 helpers and only 7 turnovers. Siri Konkel passed around 7 assists with only a single turnover.

The Grove girls attempted a season-most 32 free throws, but they hit only 13 (41%). With a season-most 26 offensive rebounds, they finished with a season-most 76 official shots from the field with a season-most 27 made field goals (36%) for a season-high 73 points. The Athletics shot 35% from the field.

Spring Grove (9-12) evened its conference record at 7-7 while Lyle/Pacelli slumped to 2-18, 2-13 SEC) It was the Lions’ fourth straight win in the series, including a 58-45 road win back in early January. They Lions now lead the all-time series, 28 wins to 11. The Spring Grove B-team (8-9) also dominated, 38-12, to also complete a season sweep of thew Athletics.
