Spring Grove boys overwhelm LeRoy-Ostrander

February 10, 2023 by Lee Epps

Spring Grove Lions Basketball

The Spring Grove boys sputtered out of the gate, but would catch fire and roll over visiting LeRoy-Ostrander, 81-27, on Jan. 30. The Lions (14-1, 11-0 SEC) had only 10 turnovers all game, but three came early while they were missing their first six shots. After going 1 for 11 from the field and 0 for 2 at the free throw line, Spring Grove would rally from a 5-3 deficit by scoring on 22 of 27 possessions heading into halftime.

The Cardinals (2-15, 1-11 SEC) could not handle the defensive pressure, committing 21 of their eventual 31 turnovers during the first half. Spring Grove, despite the slow start, would surge away with a 32-to-2 run on the way to half a hundred at halftime, 50-11.

Jaxon Strinmoen hit 10 0f 13 shots while scoring a game-high 21 points along with 7 rebounds, a career-high 7 steals and 2 assists with no turnovers. Tysen Grinde added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Caleb Griffin hit all five of his shots for 11 points to go with 4 steals and 4 assists with no turnovers. Elijah Solum passed out 7 assists while also scoring 7 points. Sophomore point guard Camden Hungerholt led the Cards with 10 points.

It was a varsity girls-boys double header with no B-team or junior high games for the boys.
