The score was tied 28-28 at the end of regulation. AC/G-E missed a game-winning field goal as time expired. Rodriguez scored his third TD on 4th and one and Landyn VanGundy caught the two-point pass to make it 36-28 Hurricanes in OT. ACGE then scored on its first play, but a Hurricane all out blitz stuffed their conversion attempt, securing the ‘Cane win)
Lanesboro 6, Southland 21 (L: Michael Rein 2-77, TD receiving, fumble recovery; Mason Howard 11 of 20, 179 yards, TD, 5 INTs passing, 16-49 rushing; Luke Ruen 2-49 receiving; Kaden Stettler 6-43 receiving. Lanesboro scored first after a fumble (6-0) but the Rebels took advantage of five interceptions and a couple Burro injuries to post the win, scoring 21 unanswered points. Southland scored 14 third quarter points, as Noah Bauer threw TD passes to Jack Bruggeman and Andrew Timm for a 21-6 lead. Lanesboro rushed for just 78 yards. The Burros ended Southland’s season 35-6 in last year’s Section 1 9-man quarters)
Spring Grove 28, Mountain Lake Area 7 (SG: B. Berns 20-114, 2 TDs rushing, 14 of 23, 187 yards, TD passing; Jacob Olerud 20-94, TD rushing, team-high 10 total tackles; Jaxon Strinmoen 5-66, TD receiving; Zach Brumm 3-49 receiving; Braedon Solie 4-47 receiving. SG built a 21-0 lead with an early third quarter score and their only points given up was the ensuing 82-yard kick-off return TD. MLA was scoreless on three red zone trips. SG’s scoring drives were 81, 70, and 84 yards. Total yardage: SG 406, MLA 155. The teams’ last meeting was a Lion win over the Wolverines in the 2018 state title game)
