Soccer boys take two, drop two during busy week

September 27, 2021 by Lee Epps

The first team to four goals wins; at least, that was true in last week’s four soccer matches for the Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston boys who won the first two and dropped the last pair. They went 1-1 in conference contests (St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura and La Crescent-Hokah) and also 1-1 in non-league action (Stewartville and La Crosse Aquinas). The Warriors (3-4-1, 2-2-1 TRC) scored in each game with 10 goals overall, half of them from the foot of Austin Meyer.

La Crescent-Hokah goalkeeper Cooper Johnson will block this late shot by Lyle Myhre, who scored four goals last week. The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston boys fell to the Lancers, 4-1.

On Sept. 13 at Stewartville, the Warriors scored the final four goals. The Tigers tallied in the first three minutes, but a Meyer goal had it knotted 1-1 at halftime. Meyer made it 2-1 with an indirect free kick before Thomas Bechtel scored his first career goal (3-1). Lyle Myhre closed the scoring.

Back home on Sept. 18, the visitors from La Crosse led 2-0 at the break before adding a second-half goal (3-0). Myhre averted the shutout, advancing down the outside and nailing a long shot from the corner with 13:06 remaining. The Blugolds closed the scoring (4-1) with 8:49 to go.
