March 19, 2018 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal, Joyce Asleson obituary

Sharon Joyce Asleson of Fountain, Minn., died March 17, 2018, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minn.  She had fought a 18-month courageous battle from a brain aneurysm.

Sharon was born on March 30, 1944, to Elton and Joyce (Grindland) Redalen.  She graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1962.  On December 8, 1963, she married Donald A. Asleson at Root Prairie Lutheran Church.  Sharon began her career at Farm Service Agency in Preston and retired after 32-plus years of service.

Sharon is survived by children Brenda (Mike) Chiglo, Brian (Kayla) Asleson, and Matt (Kristen) Asleson; and son-in-law Matt Jamieson.  She is also survived by her five brothers: Craig (Sue) Redalen, Gary (Beth) Redalen, Steven (Peggi) Redalen, Donald (Penny) Redalen, and Jeff (Michelle) Redalen, and her sister Jane (Joe) O’Koren. Sharon is also survived by her beloved sisters-in-law: Marge (Dick) Fuller, Janice Nelson, and Pat (Doug) Sample.  Sharon’s greatest affection was reserved for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jerod (Brittany) Chiglo, Jenna (Dan) Root, Nathan and Nicholas (Carlie) Benson, Cole Asleson, Lindsey and Haley Polin, Will, Sammy, and Jacob Asleson; Tyler Chiglo, and Palmer and Parker Root.  Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Donnie Asleson, daughter Jody Jamieson, sister-in-law Melva Gislason, brother-in-law David Nelson, and her parents.

Sharon enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden, cooking for her family, reading, doing puzzles, watching her grandchildren, going on casino trips with her family, and spending time in Florida visiting her daughter Jody and family.  One of Sharon’s favorite past-times was listening to Elvis Presley.

Sharon’s funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Root Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Fountain, Minn., with visitation starting at 10 a.m.  Pastor Chris Miller will officiate the service.  A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.

Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield is assisting the family with arrangements.  To share a condolence with the Asleson family please visit rileyfuneralhomes.com.
