Roy Paul Van Buskirk, of Spring Valley, died Monday, October 26, 2020, at Country Winds Manor Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.
Funeral services for Roy will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, Minn., with Pastor Mark Rader officiating. Family and close friends are welcome to attend. A burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m. in Preston, Minn. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Social distancing will be practiced and masks will be required for the safety of the family.
Roy was born on November 4, 1951, in Brownsdale, Minn., the son of Owen and Lillian (Chapman) Van Buskirk. He graduated from Hayfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he worked on Army helicopters as a mechanic.
He was united in marriage to Luann (Greenwood) Jones on December 13, 1975; to this union they had one son, Eric Van Buskirk. They were later divorced.
Roy grew up on a farm outside of Brownsdale. Roy worked many years at the Greenleafton Garage and Abe’s Auto Body. Roy was an amazing mechanic and auto body technician. Roy continued to enjoy life on the farm and had his own business Van Buskirk Repair. Roy restored many John Deere tractors, 1950 pick-ups and older cars. Roy’s love for antique tractors was his job and his love. Roy owned a Model T for a few years and had an appreciation for the antiques. Roy enjoyed fishing, he went on many fishing trips to Canada with his brothers, friends and his son and family.
Roy will be remembered by his son Eric (Kate) Van Buskirk of Spring Valley, stepdaughter Stephanie Foster of Oronoco, Minn.; two grandchildren, Vondra and Owen; four brothers: Harry (Beverly) Van Buskirk of Sargeant, Minn., Wayne Van Buskirk of Rochester, Minn., Gary (Laura) Van Buskirk of Rose Creek, Minn., and Paul Van Buskirk of Swea City, Iowa; two sisters, Lois Frieden of Bemidji, Minn., and Linda (Wayne) Jorgenson of Sargeant, Minn.; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Lillian, three brothers John, Harold and Loyd, and brother-in-law Virgil Frieden.
