Rosella Bouten

June 25, 2020 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal- Rosella Bouten obituary

Rosella J (Krieger) Bouten was born on July 23, 1931, in Spring Valley, Minn., to Elmer and Violet Krieger. She was the oldest of eight children and was raised on the family farm in Spring Valley. She married Ralph Heagy on May 3, 1947, and together they had five daughters. Rosella remarried Victor Bouten in 1987 and he preceded her in death in 1991.

Rose, or Rosie as she was called by friends and family, was a fabulous cook and spent many years as a cook at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 in Spokane, Wash. Rose was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 and held many offices over the years including president of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 51 and District 9 President of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She was an avid reader and could always be found with a book close by. She loved arts and crafts and spent many hours scrapbooking pictures of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose is most remembered for her cooking. She loved teaching her family how to make homemade bread, and everyone would come together for her fried bread and homemade chili. It was often said she could make a meal out of flour and water. She enjoyed traveling, getting together with family, dancing and drinking an ice cold beer.

Rose is survived by three of her daughters, Kathleen Petrovich, Raephel Rainey and Joyce Lindsey all residing in Spokane, Wash.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Devonda Brewer and Barbara Whetstone. She has 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Rose also has many others who call her mom and grandma, as she was a foster parent for 14 years, and opened her home to many of her friends and neighbors who all enjoyed her warm hospitality and great cooking!

Rose passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at the home of one of her daughters in Spokane. A graveside service is planned for Saturday June 27, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Steptoe Cemetery. A reception will follow at The Rose Garage in Rosalia Washington. Online guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com.

Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is caring for the family.
