Norma Irene Westphal, 90, of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 25, 2020, at her home of an apparent heart attack.
Norma’s family will be having a small, private memorial service on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Due to COVID-19 only a few family members will be in attendance at the physical service, however we will be streaming Norma’s service live for her friends and family to view. Norma Irene Meyer was born March 25, 1930, in Spring Valley, Minn., the daughter of Herbert and Gaynol (Bauer) Meyer. She attended schools in Spring Valley, graduating with the class of 1949 from Spring Valley High School. On July 28, 1950, she married Darold F. Westphal in Spring Valley. For a number of years, she worked as an administrative assistant for several law firms in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. The family moved to Iowa City in 1967, where she worked for the Iowa Law Review.
Her family includes her son and his wife, Brian and Lynne Westphal; grandson Adam Westphal, and her siblings, Gloria Richardson (Don), Phyllis Hendrikson (Percy), Merlin Meyer (Lori) and Wendell Meyer.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darold, and brother Loren Meyer.
