Noreen Hebig, age 87, of Spring Valley, Minn., died on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus, in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral service for Noreen will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, Minn., with Pastor Jolene Knutson-Hanse officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and will continue Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the start of the service. Burial will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Spring Valley, Minn.
Noreen (Rene) Helen Hebig was born on February 19, 1936, to George and Mildred (Sexton) Cooley in Rochester, Minn. She was baptized on March 22, 1936, in Rochester, Minn., and confirmed on May 8, 1949, at St. John’s Evangelist Church, in Rochester, Minn. She attended Lourdes and Rochester High School. Prior to retiring after 30 years at the Mayo Clinic, she was a daycare provider so she could be home with her five daughters.
Noreen and Vern loved horses and spent much of their time trail riding with their family and friends. Locally they rode at Forestville State Park and nationally they rode in places such as the Black Hills, Missouri, Tennessee, and Montana. Her family was special to her and she especially cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended numerous wrestling matches, soccer, basketball and volleyball games. She was also an excellent cook and baker. Her cinnamon rolls, pies, and homemade buns were a family favorite! More recently, her enjoyment came from playing cards and bingo.
Noreen married Vernon James Hebig on May 16, 1953. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary when he passed away on June 21, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Peggy, on December 5, 1991.
She is survived by four daughters: Sharon (Terry) Muller of Oronoco, Cindy (Nels) Oftedahl of Stewartville, Kathy (Duane) Sowers of Racine, and Kim (Tom) Mosher of Spring Valley; nine grandchildren: Jason, Jessie, Chris, Tara, Riley, Stacy, Jill, Mitch and Heather; 15 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Sophia, Michelle, Everett, Kalli, Dez, Mandy, Aubrey, Ethan, Layla, Broc, Grayson, Finley, Brinley and Dylan.
