Naomi Wangen obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Naomi J. Wangen, 90, of Rushford, died July 11, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Naomi was born September 4, 1932, to Herman, Sr. and Beulah (Vickerman) Hermanson, at her grandmother’s home in the Big Woods of Preble Township in Fillmore County. She grew up and attended school in the Black Hammer area. On March 13, 1948, she was united in marriage to Peter Wangen at the Highland Prairie Lutheran parsonage.  They had lived in the Highland, Harmony, Lanesboro, and Mabel areas. Naomi worked at the Harmony House Restaurant and the Bread Basket Restaurant in Harmony. Peter passed away on March 24, 2011. She was a member of the Elstad Lutheran Church and former member of the Greenfield Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed embroidery, baking, crocheting, gardening, flowers, animals, and especially her family.

Naomi is survived by her children David Wangen of Harmony, Darlene (Carrol) Tudahl of Rushford, Julie Burkholder of Preston, Carolyn (Dean) Solberg of Lanesboro, and Jason (Kelly) Wangen of St. Charles; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Manford “Ben”  Hermanson of Osceola, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, a daughter, Jean; a son, Jerry; a daughter-in-law, Kim Wangen; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, a great-grandson, two brothers, Bud and Gaylord; and a sister, Donna Bestor.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. July 15, 2023, at the Elstad Lutheran in rural Lanesboro, Minn. Rev. Kerry Eversole will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials to the Elstad Lutheran Church are preferred in lieu of flowers. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family with arrangements.
