A celebration of life for Mary will be held on October 2, 2021, from 2-5 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.
Her body has been entrusted to Mayo Foundation for the advancement of medical education. Burial will be at a later date in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
Mary was born on November 6, 1948 at Johnson’s Hospital in Lanesboro, Minn., to Arthur and Ethel (Flattum) Rasmussen. Mary was baptized, confirmed and married at Highland Lutheran Church. Mary attended Elstad Country School until the sixth grade and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1966. On December 1, 1967 Mary and Leland Peterson were married. Mary was a stay-at-home mom when their three boys were growing up.
From 1988 to 2015 Mary worked for Fillmore County District Court in Preston, Minn. Mary loved to spend time with her husband, sons, grandchildren, family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, shopping and golfing. Mary was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Friendship Club of Lanesboro.
Survivors include her husband Leland, three sons: Michael (Molly) Peterson of Wapello, Iowa, Matthew (Tonya) Peterson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Daniel (Sara) Peterson of South Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren: Margaret Kathryn and Matthew Michael Peterson of Wapello, Iowa, Kyleigh Shea and Ryker Thane Peterson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ruby Sally Peterson of South Minneapolis, Minn.; sister Jean (Curtis) Hall of Lanesboro, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lois (Orren) Flaby and Carol (Loren) Tufte and an infant brother.
Memorials are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice. Mary’s family wishes to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice for their care and compassion There are, indeed, angels on earth.

We have wonderful memories of our time in the Preston area and wish we could have had a chance to see you both again. Unfortunately we waited too long to arrange that.
